2003–04 Alabama Crimson Tide Men's Basketball Team
The 2003–04 Alabama Crimson Tide men's basketball team (variously "Alabama", "UA", "Bama" or " The Tide") represented the University of Alabama in the 2003–04 college basketball season. The head coach was Mark Gottfried, who was in his sixth season at Alabama. The team played its home games at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and was a member of the Southeastern Conference. This was the 92nd season of basketball in the school's history. The Crimson Tide finished the season 20–13, 8–8 in SEC play, lost in the second round of the 2004 SEC men's basketball tournament. Mark Frederick Gottfried (born January 20, 1964) is an American men's college basketball coach (basketball), coach, basketball podcaster, and former player who most recently served as head coach of the Cal State Northridge Matadors men's basketball, Cal State Northridge Matadors. Antoine Pettway
Antoine Pettway (born November 13, 1982) is a retired American basketball player and current coach. He is the head coach of the Kennesaw State Owls men's basketball team. Playing career Pettway attended Wilcox Central High School in Camden, Alabama, where he helped lead his team to a state championship. Pettway walked on at the University of Alabama. As a senior, during the 2003–04 season, he started in every game, as the Crimson Tide made the Elite Eight. That season, he averaged nine points, four assists, and four rebounds. During the summer of 2004, Pettway joined the Kentucky Reach of the World Basketball Association. He averaged 13 points and five assists, while being named the league's rookie of the year. The 2003–04 Providence Friars men's basketball team represented Providence College in the Big East Conference. The team finished with an 11–5 conference record and a 20–9 record overall. Coming off an 18–14 record and a second-round NIT loss in 2002–03, the team returned all five starters for coach Tim Welsh's sixth season with the Friars. The Empire Classic is an annual college basketball event played in November at the beginning of the season and televised by ESPN. Originally known as the Atlantic City Shootout and produced by the Gazelle Group, Inc., the event was first played in 1995. The following year, it became the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic as a collaboration between the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the American Cancer Society in an effort to raise funds for cancer research.
