The shot put is a track-and-field event involving "putting" (throwing) a heavy spherical Ball (sports), ball—the ''shot''—as far as possible. Carl Myerscough (born 21 October 1979) is an English former track and field athlete specialised in shot put and discus throw and a world record holder grip strength specialist. His height of 208 cm (6 ft 10 in) earned him the nickname 'The Blackpool Tower'. Biography Track and field While competing for the University of Nebraska Carl gained two indoor (2002–03) and two outdoor (2003–04) NCAA Division 1 championships. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 2004, with a degree in Fine Art and won the UK championships in the shot put ten times consecutively from 2003 to 2012. Justin ("Judo") Anlezark (born 14 August 1977 in Katherine, Northern Territory) is an Australian male shot putter. His personal best throw is 20.96 metres, achieved in April 2003 in Brisbane. Anlezark was the first Australian male to reach a World Championship Shot Put final in 2003, and his 4th-place finish remains the best ever performance by an Australian man in a throwing event at this level. He followed this up with a sixth-place finish at the 2004 Olympics, another best ever performance by an Australian in his event. Ville Johannes Tiisanoja (born 24 December 1975 in Vantaa, Finland) is a tall Finnish shot putter who weighs and competes for Kenttäurheilijat-58 in Vantaa. His personal best in the men's shot put currently stands at 21.09 m, which he put on 28 July 2002 in the Elite Games in Kuortane, Finland. He is coached by his father Kalle Tiisanoja. Tiisanoja is a construction foreman by trade. Although Tiisanoja does not hold any Finnish records for men's shot put, he does hold the record for 17-year-olds from 1992 (19.79 m) and the indoor shot put record for 14-year-olds from 1989 (13.30 m). Michael Reese Hoffa (born ''Maurice Antawn Chism''; October 8, 1977 in Evans, Georgia) is an American shot putter. Conny Karlsson (born 30 December 1975 in Dragsfjärd, Finland) is a 195-cm tall former Finnish shot putter, who competed for Pargas IF. His personal best in the men's shot put currently stands at 20.78 m, which he put on 4 August 2001 in the World Championships in Edmonton, Canada. He was coached by Robert Malmberg.
