2003 UCI Road World Championships
The 2003 UCI Road World Championships took place in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, between October 7 and October 12, 2003. The event consisted of a road race and a time trial for men, women, men under 23, junior men and junior women. David Millar was handed a two-year ban and stripped of his world time trial title by the British cycling federation for taking the banned performance enhancer EPO. Following this disqualification, the UCI declared Michael Rogers as the winner with the silver medal going to Uwe Peschel and the bronze to Michael Rich. Jeannie Longo rode alone ahead of the pack for most of the women's road race but was passed approximately 500m from the finish. Susanne Ljungskog (born 16 March 1976 in Halmstad) is a Swedish former cycle sport, cyclist. As a four-time Olympic Games, Olympian (1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008), she won the world road bicycle racing, road race championship in 2002 and 2003. Anders Lund
Anders Lund (born 14 February 1985 in Copenhagen) is a Danish former professional road bicycle racer, who competed as a professional between 2007 and 2013. He started his cycling career racing for Ordrup Cycle Club in the north of Copenhagen, and was reckoned to be a very talented climber and skilled all-rounder . As a teenager he joined Team PH, which later changed its name to Team GLS, where he rode with Matti Breschel and Chris Anker Sørensen, both of whom were also later teammates with him at . Kai Reus
Kai Reus (born 11 March 1985) is a Dutch former professional road bicycle racer who last rode for . As a junior, Reus won the Junior men's road race during the 2003 UCI Road World Championships. After missing out on the 2007 Tour de France Reus was training at the Col de l'Iseran on 12 July 2007. Reus fell from his bike and slipped into a coma. After team mate Michael Rasmussen won the yellow jersey during the Tour he dedicated the jersey to Reus. Eventually Reus would remain in coma until 23 July. Reus returned to racing in the 2008 Tour of Missouri. Reus took a year off from cycling between 2010 and 2011 after he was diagnosed with mononucleosis and lost form. He competed for in 2011 and 2013, with a season at in between. At the end of the 2016 season, Reus announced his retirement. Niels Scheuneman
Niels Scheuneman (born 21 December 1983 in Veendam) is a Dutch former professional road bicycle racer. Biography When Scheuneman was still a junior, won a silver and a bronze medal in the junior races of the 2001 UCI Road World Championships. In the 2003 UCI Road World Championships, he competed in the U23 category, and finished second in the time trial. Scheuneman transferred in 2004 to the Bodysol team, to become a full professional. The Bodysol team then merged with the Relax team, and the combination competed one lever higher, which did not suit Scheuneman, and he had a bad year. At the end of the year, Scheuneman returned to the team, where he rode as a junior. In 2005, Scheuneman rode the 2005 Vuelta a España, his only grand tour so far. During a fall which also hurt Roberto Heras, Scheuneman broke his finger and had to abandon the race. At the end of the 2006 season, Scheuneman's contract with ended, and he switched to the team. Markus Fothen (born 9 September 1981 in Kaarst) is a retired German road racing cyclist, who rode as a professional between 2004 and 2013. In 2003 Fothen won the under-23 World Championship time trial in Hamilton, Canada. He completed the 30.8 km course in 38:35.29, beating his nearest rival by nearly 20 seconds. During 2006 Tour de France, Fothen held the white jersey as leader of the young rider classification for 13 stages, losing it to Damiano Cunego on the 17th stage. Thomas Dekker (cyclist)
Thomas Dekker (born 6 September 1984) is a Dutch former professional road racing cyclist. His career highlights included winning Tirreno–Adriatico in 2006 and Tour de Romandie in 2007. He won two Dutch National Time Trial Championships and represented his country at the 2004 Summer Olympics held in Athens, Greece. A few days before the start of the 2009 Tour de France, it was announced that Dekker had tested positive for EPO in a retroactive test carried out on a urine sample taken in December 2007. Dekker initially protested his innocence but he later admitted to using EPO, claiming it was a one-time mistake. He eventually admitted to using EPO over at least parts of the 2007 and 2008 seasons, although he declined to give exact dates. Dekker was suspended for two years, from 1 July 2009 to 30 June 2011. Johan Vansummeren (born 4 February 1981) is a Belgian former professional road racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2004 and 2016 for the , , and teams. Biography Vansummeren was born, raised, and resides in Lommel, Flanders, Belgium. After two seasons in the amateur ranks, Vansummeren turned professional with in 2004. Although Vansummeren's role was primarily that of a domestique, he competed as a team leader during the classic season. In 2011, Vansummeren won the biggest race of his career, Paris–Roubaix. Zulfiya Khasanovna Zabirova (; born 19 December 1973) is a Russian professional cycle racer who won the gold medal in the time trial event in the 1996 Olympics and later, in 2002, won the World Time Trial Championship. Zabirova is one of two riders to have won two cycling monuments in the same year, having won the Primavera Rosa and Tour of Flanders for Women in 2004. Judith Arndt (born 23 July 1976) is a retired German professional sports, professional cycle sport, cyclist, who last rode for the GreenEDGE-AIS cycling team. She won the bronze medal in the Track cycling, 3000 m pursuit event at the 1996 Summer Olympics when she was 20.
