The 2002 Women's Pan-American Volleyball Cup was the first edition of the annual women's volleyball tournament, played by seven countries from Wednesday June 26 to Sunday June 30, 2002 in Tijuana, Mexico. Yumilka Ruíz
Yumilka Daysi Ruíz Luaces (born 8 May 1978) is a Cuban retired volleyball player who represented her native country in four consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in 1996. She won Olympic gold medals with the Cuba women's national volleyball team, national team in 1996 and 2000. She also claimed the bronze at the 2004 Summer Olympics, 2004 Olympics. As an outside hitter, she was integral to the dominance of the Cuban team in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In 2023, Ruíz was inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame. Club volleyball Ruíz played the 2004–05 season with the Russian club VC Uralochka-NTMK Yekaterinburg, Uralochka-NTMK, where she set the record of scoring 53 points in a single match and led her team to the championship title. Women's Pan-American Volleyball Cup
The Women's Pan-American Volleyball Cup is a continental cup organized by NORCECA with teams from all over America ( North-, South- and Central America, and the Caribbean), that served as a qualifier for the World Grand Prix. The tournament also granted places for the Final Four Women's Volleyball Cup. Since 2018 the event also serves as Pan American Games classification. The men have their own equivalent of the tournament, the Men's Pan-American Cup. Volleyball
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the program at the Atlanta 1996 Summer Olympics. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. FIVB World Grand Prix 2003
The FIVB World Grand Prix 2003 was the eleventh edition of the annual women's volleyball tournament, which is the female equivalent of the Men's Volleyball World League. The 2003 edition was played by twelve countries from July 21 to August 3, 2003 with the final round held in Andria, Italy. Nancy Carillo de la Paz (born 11 January 1986, in Havana) is a volleyball player from Cuba. Carrillo de la Paz represented her native country at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, where she won the bronze medal with the national team in the women's team competition. Bibiana Candelas Ramírez (born December 2, 1983, in Torreon, Coahuila) is a female beach volleyball and indoor volleyball player who represented her native country, Mexico, at the 2008 Olympics with her beach partner, Mayra García. Prep and early life Candelas was born in Torreón, Coahuila. She graduated in 2002 from Colegio Ponceño in Puerto Rico, but attended Preparatoria Luzac in Torreón as a freshman and sophomore. She was an eight-year (1997–2004) member of the Mexico women's national volleyball team. USC She played middle blocker at the University of Southern California from 2002 to 2005 and was a three time All-American. Evelyn Carrera Pichardo (born October 5, 1971 in Santo Domingo) is a retired female volleyball player from the Dominican Republic, who competed at the Volleyball at the 2004 Summer Olympics, 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, wearing the number #5 jersey. There she ended up in eleventh place with the Dominican Republic women's national volleyball team, Dominican Republic women's national team. Carrera played as a libero. Francia Jackson Cabrera (born November 8, 1975, in Santo Domingo) is a volleyball player from the Dominican Republic, who won the gold medal with the women's national team at the 2003 Pan American Games in her home town Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Career Jackson won the silver medal at the inaugural 2002 Pan-American Cup held in Mexicali, Mexico; there she was awarded "Best Setter".
