The 2002 PSA Men's World Open Squash Championship is the men's edition of the 2002 World Open, which serves as the individual world championship for squash players. The event took place in Antwerp in Belgium from 6 December to 14 December 2002. David Palmer won his first World Open title, defeating John White in the final. World Open (squash)
The World Squash Championships are Squash (sport), squash events for men and women organised by the Professional Squash Association. The men's event was first held in 1976 in London, England and the women's was inaugurated in 1976 in Brisbane, Australia. Overview The British Open Squash Championships, British Open had for many years been generally considered to be the sport's effective world championship, and this continued to be the case until the World Open (now called World Championship) was established. The women's World Championship was held once every two years until the early 1990s, when it became an annual event. The men's event has been held every year since 1976, except for a two-year gap in 2000 and 2001 when it was not held due primarily to difficulties in securing sponsorship. Karim Darwish (squash)
Karim Darwish ( ar, كريم درويش; born 29 August 1981) is an Egyptian squash player. Career overview As a junior player, he won the World Junior Championship title in 2000, and the British Junior Open title in 1999. Earlier in 2008, Darwish finished runner-up at the World Open, losing in the final to fellow Egyptian player Ramy Ashour (11–5, 8–11, 4–11, 5–11). Darwish displaced Amr Shabana to claim the world number 1 position after winning the prestigious 2008 Saudi International and 3 major titles (including the Qatar Classic) in 2008. Darwish competed in the J.P. Morgan T.O.C, only to lose to Daryl Selby in round 1. In the Case Swedish Open in 2012, Darwish placed 2nd after losing to Grégory Gaultier in the final. Wael El Hindi
Wael Hatem El-Hendy (; born June 25, 1980 in Giza) is a professional squash player who represented Egypt. A Professional Squash Association (PSA) member since 1999, Wael El Hindi has long been regarded as one of Egypt's most talented players – first making his mark in the USA in 1998 when he reached the final of the World Junior Championship as a 5/8 seed. Steady progress on the Tour saw the 28-year-old from Giza – who currently divides his time between Egypt and England – reached a career high ranking of World No. 8 in November 2008. Derek Ryan (squash Player)
Derek Ryan (born 10 December 1969) is a retired Irish professional squash player who at the peak of his career rose to No. 7 in the world rankings, and for many years was the Irish men's number 1 player. Ryan was born in Dublin. He began playing squash along with his brother Noel, as his parents both played. Living in Killiney he played at various local clubs including ''Squash Ireland'' and from the age of 14 he played league squash with Sandycove TSC. Ryan was ranked first in Ireland by the age of 19. He completed his school Leaving Certificate and decided to study accountancy which he discontinued after a year. Aged 19 he decided to play professionally and in 1991 he moved to Manchester. Simon Parke (born 10 August 1972 in Oakham, Rutland, United Kingdom) is a former professional squash player from England. Squash career Parke won the World Junior Squash Championship title in 1990. As a professional player, he broke into the world's top-20 in 1991, and the top-10 in 1995. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer in December 1995, and underwent surgery in January 1996, followed by treatment which included chemotherapy. He returned to the professional squash circuit four months after his surgery. Parke was part of the England team that won the 1995 Men's World Team Squash Championships and 1997 Men's World Team Squash Championships.
