The 2001–02 Tour de las Américas was the 11th season of the Tour de las Américas (formerly the South American Tour), the main professional golf tour in Latin America since it was formed in 1991. Jesús Amaya
Jesús Armando Amaya Contreras (born 24 August 1969) is a Colombian professional golfer. Early life Amaya was born in Bogotá. He worked as a caddie at the Club Popular de Golf La Florida. Professional career In 1991, he turned professional. In addition to his many victories on the Colombian Golf Federation circuit, including three Colombian Open titles, Amaya has won six times on the Tour de las Américas, finishing second on the Order of Merit in 2000–01, and fourth in 2001–02. In 2015, he won his 100th tournament. Amaya has represented Colombia on five occasions at the World Cup. Raúl Fretes (born 13 September 1965) is a Paraguayan professional golfer. Fretes was born in Asunción and turned pro in 1990. He won the Tour de las Américas, South American Tour Order of Merit in 1994 and 1998. He won the 2005 World Golf Teachers Cup. Fretes played on the Tour de las Américas and his best finish was second in the TLA Players Championship in 2003 and the Center Open in 2007. CANTV Venezuela Open
The Venezuela Open or Abierto de Venezuela is a men's professional golf tournament. It has only been staged intermittently since 1957, 2019 being the 35th edition of the event. Al Geiberger, Art Wall Jr., David Graham, Roberto De Vicenzo and Tony Jacklin are past champions. Since 2014, the Venezuela Open has been a fixture on the PGA Tour Latinoamérica Developmental Series. From 1979 to 2009 it made frequent appearances on the South American Tour, later known as the Tour de las Américas. Between 1961 and 1973 the tournament was a regular stop on the PGA-sponsored Caribbean Tour, when it was called the Caracas Open or Caracas Open Invitational. Sebastián Fernández (born 8 September 1973) is an Argentina, Argentine professional golfer. Fernández was born in Buenos Aires. He worked as a caddie in Buenos Aires, before turning professional in 1991. He won the Argentine Tour Order of Merit in 2000. American Express Costa Rica Open
The Costa Rica Open is a men's professional golf tournament that was played annually in Costa Rica until 2007. It was an event on the Tour de las Americas from 2002 until its replacement by the Costa Rica Golf Classic in 2008, and was also co-sanctioned by the European Challenge Tour from 2003. The tournament was held at the Cariari Country Club near San José every year except in 2004 when it was played over the Valle del Sol Golf Course near Santa Ana. The 2006 event was renamed in order to pay tribute to the tournaments founder and promoter, Kai Fieberg, who had been killed in a car accident earlier in the year. In 1979 and 1980, Cariari hosted the PGA sponsored Friendship Cup, which is sometimes also referred to as the Costa Rica Open. These tournaments were won by Raymond Floyd and Larry Ziegler.
