2001 Ohio Valley Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2001 Ohio Valley Conference men's basketball tournament was the postseason men's basketball tournament of the Ohio Valley Conference during the 2000–01 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. It was held February 27–March 3, 2001. The first round was hosted by the higher seeded team in each game. The semifinals and finals took place at Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Second-seeded Eastern Illinois won the tournament, defeating in the championship game, and received the Ohio Valley's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Kyle Hill of Eastern Illinois was named the tournament's most valuable player. Format The top eight eligible men's basketball teams in the Ohio Valley Conference receive a berth in the conference tournament. After the regular season, teams were seeded by conference record. The 2000–01 Eastern Illinois Panthers men's basketball team represented Eastern Illinois University as a member of the Ohio Valley Conference during the 2000–01 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. This was Rick Samuels' 21st season as head coach at Eastern Illinois. After finishing second in the conference regular season standings, Eastern Illinois won the OVC tournament to secure the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Kyle Eric Hill (born April 7, 1979) is an American retired professional basketball player. He was picked by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2001 NBA draft with the 44th overall draft pick. Hill's NBA rights were then traded by the Mavericks shortly after the draft to the Houston Rockets. Hill ended up never playing in an NBA game and is 1 of 8 players from the 2001 NBA Draft that never played a game in the league. 2001 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament
The 2001 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 65 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball for the 2000–01 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. It began on March 13, 2001, with the play-in game, and ended with the championship game on April 2 in Minneapolis, at the Metrodome. A total of 64 games were played. This tournament is the first to feature 65 teams, due to the Mountain West Conference receiving an automatic bid for the first time. This is a list of regular season and tournament champions in men's basketball of the NCAA Division I Ohio Valley Conference. Men's basketball conference champions The Ohio Valley Conference basketball tournament was held in Louisville from 1949–55 and from 1964 to 1967. The tournaments held from 1948 to 1967 were done at the beginning of the season rather than after conference play. From 1956 to 1963 and from 1968 to 1974, no tournament was held.
