Nutter Center
The Nutter Center is a multi-purpose arena located at Wright State University, in Fairborn, Ohio. It mainly serves as the home court of the Wright State Raiders men's and women's basketball teams. It is also regularly used as a music venue for touring concerts and shows and for area high school graduation ceremonies. History A local businessman and inventor, Ervin J. Nutter, donated $1.5 million to Wright State University in 1986. Funds from both the state of Ohio and the university contributed an additional $8 million to construction efforts which began in 1988. 2000–01 Butler Bulldogs Men's Basketball Team
The 2000–01 Butler Bulldogs men's basketball team represented Butler University in the 2000–01 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Their head coach was Thad Matta, serving in his 1st season as head coach at the school. The Bulldogs played their home games at Hinkle Fieldhouse as members of the Midwestern Collegiate Conference. Butler finished first in the MCC season standings and won the MCC tournament to receive the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament – the school’s fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in five years. As No. 10 seed in the Midwest region, the Bulldogs took down No. 7 seed Wake Forest, 79–63, in the opening round, before falling to No. 2 seed Arizona in the second round. Thad Matta
Thad Michael Matta (born July 11, 1967) is an American college basketball coach who is currently in his second stint as head coach of the Butler Bulldogs men's basketball team, having been head coach of the Bulldogs for the 2000–01 season. From 2004 to 2017, Matta led the Ohio State Buckeyes to five Big Ten Conference regular season championships (2006, 2007, 2010, 2011 and 2012), four Big Ten tournament titles (2007, 2010, 2011 and 2013), two Final Four appearances (2007 and 2012), and the 2008 NIT Championship. 2002 Horizon League Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2002 Horizon League men's basketball tournament took place at the end of the 2001–02 regular season. The tournament was hosted by Cleveland State University. Notably, this was the first men's basketball tournament that the conference held under its current identity as the Horizon League; the conference was originally known as the Midwestern City Conference and later as the Midwestern Collegiate Conference. It was also the last Horizon League tournament for more than a decade to be held at a single, predetermined site. From 2003 through 2015, the tournament was played at campus locations. The next tournament to take place at a neutral site was the 2016 edition, held at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. Seeds All Horizon League schools played in the tournament. The 2000–01 Wright State Raiders men's basketball team represented Wright State University in the 2000–01 NCAA Division I men's basketball season led by head coach Ed Schilling. Season Summary While the Raiders would not challenge for the conference title, the 2000-01 season was the best season since the 1992-93 season, and easily the best of the Ed Schilling era. 18 wins, a winning conference record, the fourth seed in the conference tournament; the season would again end with a loss to Butler University who would go on to upset Wake Forest in the NCAA tournament.
