The 2000–01 UCLA Bruins men's basketball team represented the University of California, Los Angeles in the 2000–01 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team finished 3rd in the Pacific-10 Conference with a 14–4 conference record, 23–9 overall. The Bruins competed in the 2001 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, losing to the eventual champion 2000–01 Duke Blue Devils men's basketball team, Duke Blue Devils in the sweet sixteen. Steve Lavin
Stephen Michael Lavin (born September 4, 1964) is an American college basketball coach and former broadcaster who is the head coach of the San Diego Toreros men's basketball team at the University of San Diego (USD). He previously served as head coach of the St. John's Red Storm men's basketball, St. John's Red Storm and UCLA Bruins men's basketball, UCLA Bruins. In eleven full seasons as a head coach, Lavin had led teams to ten postseason appearances, highlighted by eight National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA Tournament berths, an Elite Eight ('97), five NCAA Regional semifinals ('97, '98, '00, '01, '02) and nine campaigns of twenty or more wins. The 2000–01 UC Irvine Anteaters men's basketball team represented the University of California, Irvine during the 2000–01 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Anteaters were led by fourth year head coach Pat Douglass and played their home games at the Bren Events Center. They were members of the Big West Conference. They finished the season with a school record 25–5 and 15–1 in Big West play to win the Big West regular season championship. 2000–01 Hawaii Rainbow Warriors Basketball Team
The 2000–01 Hawaii Rainbow Warriors basketball team represented the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa in the 2000–01 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Rainbow Warriors, led by head coach Riley Wallace, played their home games at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, as members of the Western Athletic Conference. The Rainbow Warriors finished 5th in the WAC during the regular season, but landed three upset victories in three days during the WAC tournament, finishing with a 78–72 overtime victory over host in the championship game. As WAC tournament champions, Hawaii earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, and were given the 12th seed in the Midwest region. The John R. Wooden Classic was an annual college basketball event hosted by the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Named after coach John Wooden, the event was founded in 1994 and featured a December neutral-site doubleheader until its final two editions, which were single games.
