2000–01 Milwaukee Bucks Season
The 2000–01 NBA season was the 33rd season for the Milwaukee Bucks in the National Basketball Association. The Bucks received the fifteenth overall pick in the 2000 NBA draft, and selected center Jason Collier out of Georgia Tech University, but soon traded him to the Houston Rockets in exchange for center, and top draft pick Joel Przybilla from the University of Minnesota; the Bucks also drafted shooting guard Michael Redd out of Ohio State University with the 43rd overall pick. During the off-season, the team acquired Lindsey Hunter from the Detroit Pistons, acquired Jason Caffey from the Golden State Warriors in a three-team trade, and signed free agents Jerome Kersey and Mark Pope. George Karl
George Matthew Karl (born May 12, 1951) is an American former professional basketball coach and player. After spending five years as a player for the San Antonio Spurs, he became an assistant with the team before being appointed as a head coach in 1980 with the Montana Golden Nuggets of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). Three years later, Karl became one of the youngest National Basketball Association (NBA) head coaches in history when he was named coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers at age 33. By the time his coaching career came to an end in 2016, Karl coached nine different teams in three different leagues (CBA, NBA, Liga ACB), which included being named Coach of the Year three combined times (twice in the CBA and once in the NBA) with one championship roster in the FIBA Saporta Cup. 2000–01 Houston Rockets Season
The 2000–01 NBA season was the 34th season for the Houston Rockets in the National Basketball Association, and their 30th season in Houston, Texas. The Rockets received the ninth overall pick in the 2000 NBA draft, and selected center Joel Przybilla from the University of Minnesota, but soon traded him to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for center, and first-round draft pick Jason Collier out of Georgia Tech University. In an effort to shore up their front line, the Rockets signed free agent Maurice Taylor during the off-season. After the retirement of All-Star forward Charles Barkley, the Rockets got off to a 13–9 start to the regular season, but then went on a six-game losing streak afterwards. Eastern Conference (NBA)
The Eastern Conference is one of two conferences that make up the National Basketball Association (NBA), the other being the Western Conference. Both conferences consist of 15 teams organized into three divisions. The Eastern Conference comprises the Atlantic, Central, and Southeast Divisions. The current divisional alignment was adopted at the start of the 2004–05 season, when the now Charlotte Hornets began play as the NBA's 30th franchise. This necessitated the move of the New Orleans Pelicans from the Eastern Conference's Central Division to the newly created Southwest Division of the Western Conference. Central Division (NBA)
The Central Division is one of the three divisions in the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The division consists of five teams, the Chicago Bulls, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Detroit Pistons, the Indiana Pacers, and the Milwaukee Bucks. All teams except the Cavaliers are former Midwest Division teams; thus, the Central Division now largely resembles the Midwest Division in the 1970s. An earlier five-team Central Division previously existed for the 1949–50 season as one of three divisions in the NBA, along with the Western and Eastern divisions. Mark Pope
Mark Edward Pope (born September 11, 1972) is an American collegiate basketball coach and former player who is head men's basketball coach at the University of Kentucky, his alma matter. As a player, Pope played power forward and small forward. He was Pac-10 Freshman of the Year with the Washington Huskies and then transferred to Kentucky, where he served as a team captain of its 1996 NCAA national championship team. After college, Pope spent almost a decade playing professionally in the U.S. and internationally. Pope has held various coaching roles at the collegiate level. Prior to taking the helm at his alma mater, he was the head coach at Utah Valley from 2015 to 2019 and BYU from 2019 to 2024. Jerome Kersey
Jerome Kersey (June 26, 1962 – February 18, 2015) was an American professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played for the Portland Trail Blazers (1984–1995), Golden State Warriors (1995–96), Los Angeles Lakers (1996–97), Seattle SuperSonics (1997–98), San Antonio Spurs (1998–2000), and Milwaukee Bucks (2000–01). Kersey won an NBA championship with the Spurs in 1999. The Trail Blazers selected Kersey in the second round of the 1984 NBA draft from Longwood University (then Longwood College) in Farmville, Virginia. He was a member of the Spurs during their 1999 NBA Finals victory over the New York Knicks. Following his playing career, Kersey worked with his former Portland teammate and then-head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks Terry Porter as an assistant in 2005. 1999–2000 Golden State Warriors Season
The 1999–2000 NBA season was the 54th season for the Golden State Warriors in the National Basketball Association, and their 38th season in the San Francisco Bay Area. The city of Oakland, California hosted the 2000 NBA All-Star Game this season. During the off-season, the Warriors acquired Mookie Blaylock from the Atlanta Hawks, and acquired point guard, and first-round draft pick Vonteego Cummings out of the University of Pittsburgh from the Indiana Pacers. Jason Caffey
Jason Andre Caffey (born June 12, 1973) is an American former professional basketball player who won two championship rings with the Chicago Bulls in the late 1990s. He later became the head coach of the American Basketball Association's Mobile Bay Hurricanes. Basketball career Caffey was born in Mobile, Alabama and played basketball at Davidson High School, where he earned 1st team All State in Class 6A and was named Gatorade's choice for state Player Of The Year. The 6'8" power forward went on to play 4 years at the University of Alabama under coach Wimp Sanderson, and was selected by the Chicago Bulls with the 20th pick of the 1995 NBA draft. The 1999–2000 NBA season was the 52nd season for the Detroit Pistons in the National Basketball Association, and their 43rd season in Detroit, Michigan. During the off-season, the team re-signed free agents, and former Pistons players Terry Mills, and Michael Curry. After the retirements of All-Star guard Joe Dumars and Bison Dele, the Pistons struggled losing their first four games of the regular season, but then won 18 of their next 28 games, and held a 25–23 record at the All-Star break. Lindsey Hunter
Lindsey Benson Hunter Jr. (born December 3, 1970) is an American former professional basketball player and coach. He played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1993 to 2010, spending most of his career with the Detroit Pistons. He was also the interim head coach of the Phoenix Suns in 2013. Most recently, he served as the head coach at Mississippi Valley State.
