The 2000–01 NBA season was the 21st season for the Dallas Mavericks in the National Basketball Association. The Mavericks received the twelfth overall pick in the 2000 NBA draft, and selected power forward Etan Thomas out of Syracuse University; the team also acquired shooting guard, and first-round draft pick Courtney Alexander out of Fresno State University from the Orlando Magic, power forward, and first-round draft pick Donnell Harvey out of the University of Florida from the New York Knicks, and power forward, and second-round draft pick Eduardo Nájera out of the University of Oklahoma from the Houston Rockets. Don Nelson
Donald Arvid Nelson (born May 15, 1940) is an American former professional basketball player and head coach. Nelson is second all-time in regular season wins of any coach in NBA history, with 1,335 (he held the record for most wins for almost 12 years before he was surpassed by Gregg Popovich in 2022). He coached the Milwaukee Bucks, the New York Knicks, the Dallas Mavericks, and the Golden State Warriors. After an All-American career at the University of Iowa, Nelson won five NBA championships playing with the Boston Celtics, with his number 19 retired by the franchise in 1978. His unique brand of basketball is often referred to as " Nellie Ball". Donnell Eugene Harvey (born August 26, 1980) is an American retired professional basketball player. He previously played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the New Jersey Nets, Denver Nuggets, Dallas Mavericks, Orlando Magic, and Phoenix Suns. Juwan Antonio Howard ( ; born February7, 1973) is an American professional basketball coach and former player who is an assistant coach for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He previously served as the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines men's team from 2019 to 2024 before joining the Nets in 2024. The 2000–01 NBA season was the 40th season for the Washington Wizards in the National Basketball Association, and their 28th season in Washington, D.C.. The city of Washington, D.C. hosted the 2001 NBA All-Star Game at the MCI Center this season. During the off-season, the Wizards acquired Felipe López and Cherokee Parks from the Vancouver Grizzlies, and acquired Popeye Jones from the Denver Nuggets. Under new head coach Leonard Hamilton, and later on trading Parks to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Tyrone Nesby, the Wizards continued to struggle posting a nine-game losing streak between November and December. The 1999–2000 NBA season was the 26th season for the Utah Jazz in the National Basketball Association, and their 21st season in Salt Lake City, Utah. Howard Eisley
Howard Jonathan Eisley (born December 4, 1972) is an American former professional basketball player and current coach. Born in Detroit, Eisley played college basketball for the Boston College Eagles and was drafted in 1994 by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Eisley spent twelve seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA): six with the Utah Jazz (1995–2000, 2004–2005) and the other six with seven other teams. Loy Stephen Vaught (born February 27, 1968) is an American former professional basketball player who spent ten seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA), primarily with the Los Angeles Clippers. Vaught played at East Kentwood High School in Kentwood, Michigan, a suburb of Grand Rapids, and helped lead the University of Michigan Wolverines to the 1989 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship.
