2000 Women's World Ice Hockey Championships (Lower Divisions)
The 2000 IIHF World Women's Championships Pool B were held between March 20–26, 2000 in the cities of Liepāja and Riga in Latvia. Kazakhstan won the tournament with an impressive performance winning all five of their matches. Additionally this advanced them to a qualification tournament for the Turin Olympics together with second place Switzerland, who narrowly edged out Norway for the privilege. Group 'B' changed its name to Division I following this season. For the second year, a third tier tournament was played (called 2001 Pool B Qualification) in Székesfehérvár, Hungary. Liepāja
Liepāja (; liv, Līepõ; see other names) is a state city in western Latvia, located on the Baltic Sea. It is the largest-city in the Kurzeme Region and the third-largest city in the country after Riga and Daugavpils. It is an important ice-free port. The population in 2020 was 68,535 people. Michelle Smith de Bruin (born 16 December 1969 in Rathcoole) is an Irish lawyer and retired Olympic swimmer. She won three gold medals at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, for the 400 m individual medley, 400 m freestyle and 200 m individual medley, and also won the bronze medal for the 200 m butterfly event. Smith's rise to dominance in the 1995 European Championships, followed by her wins in Atlanta at a relatively advanced age for swimmers were marked by allegations of doping, which were never proven. Dunaújváros
Dunaújváros (; also known by other alternative names) is an industrial city in Fejér County, Central Hungary. It is a city with county rights. Birgitte Elisabeth Andersen (née Olsen) (17 December 1791 – 6 February 1875) was a Danish stage actor and ballet dancer. Daughter of Iver Olsen, controller at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen. Student of Antoine Bournonville at the ballet school from 1801. In 1804, she became one of the first students at the newly founded drama school Den Kgl. Dramatiske Skole, and was considered as the most notable talent the school produced.
