2000 NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Tournament
The 2000 NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Tournament was the culmination of the 1999–00 season, the 17th such tournament in NCAA history. It concluded with Norwich defeating St. Thomas in the championship game 2-1. All Quarterfinals matchups were held at home team venues, while all succeeding games were played in Superior, Wisconsin. The NCAA began offering automatic bids to conference tournament champions for the first time. Seven of the eight existing conferences received automatic bids with only the MCHA not included. This was because the MCHA had a Division II program who participated in their conference tournament; both ECAC East and ECAC Northeast had Division II members as well but none of those team participated in their respective conference tournaments. Middlebury Panthers Men's Ice Hockey
The Middlebury Panthers men's ice hockey team represents Middlebury College in men’s hockey and has done so since 1922 (with the exception of a few years during World War II). The Panthers currently play at the NCAA Division III, Division III and have won the most championships (8) of any D-III program. For a time the team did play along with top-level programs but when men's ice hockey divided into separate tiers in the mid-1960s Middlebury left the upper echelon. Wentworth Institute of Technology (WIT) is a private university in Boston, Massachusetts. Wentworth was founded in 1904 and offers career-focused education through 22 bachelor's degree programs as well as 11 master's degrees. ECAC West
ECAC West was a college athletic conference which operated in the northeastern United States until 2017. It participated in the NCAA's Division III as a hockey-only conference. The conference ceased to exist after the end of the 2016–17 season when most joined the newly formed United Collegiate Hockey Conference or Northeast Women's Hockey League. History ECAC West was officially formed in 1984 when ECAC 2 was split in two and both new conferences dropped down to Division III. The conference consisted entirely of schools from upstate New York until 1988 when Mercyhurst joined. RIT Tigers Men's Ice Hockey
The RIT Tigers men's ice hockey team is a collegiate ice hockey team representing the Rochester Institute of Technology in suburban Rochester, New York, United States. The school's men's team competes in the NCAA Division I, Division I Atlantic Hockey America. The team has won two national championships, one each at the NCAA Division II, Division II and NCAA Division III, Division III levels. NCHA Men's Tournament
The NCHA men's tournament is an annual Division III conference tournament that has taken place since 1986. The winner of the tournament has received an automatic bit to the NCAA Tournament since they were first offered in 2000. History When the NCHA formed in 1981 the NCAA was already holding a preliminary tournament to help determine the bids for the NCAA Tournament. They continued to do so until 1985 after which the western conferences began playing their own postseason tournaments. For the first year the NCHA tournament format was a Two-game, total goal series for both rounds. That was changed to a point system the following year; the teams would play two games against one another and whoever had the most points would advance (2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie). Northern Collegiate Hockey Association
The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) is a college athletic conference which operates in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin in the midwestern United States. It participates in the NCAA's Division III as a hockey-only conference. The conference was formally approved in 1980 as an association of six schools in Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin, though the teams' schedules would not be standardized until the following season. This led to some teams playing an unequal number of games in the 1980–81 season. As such, the 1981–82 season is considered the first official season of play. The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is an intercollegiate athletic conference that competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III, consisting of schools in the State University of New York system. It was chartered in 1958 as the New York State Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. NEHC Men's Tournament
History The New England Hockey Conference men's tournament began as the 'ECAC East Tournament' in 1985, a year after ECAC 2 downgraded to Division III and during the season where the conference formally split into two separate entities. For most of its existence the tournament was an 8-team format but on occasion the top seed would receive a bye into the semifinal round. For a few years during the late 1990s the tournament was expanded to include 10 teams but this was abandoned when nine teams left to form the ice hockey division of the NESCAC. Beginning with the 2004 tournament, the top seeded team to reach the semifinal round served as host for all semifinal and championship games regardless of their participation. This arrangement was abandoned after the 2013 tournament and the final two rounds were placed on different weekends. MIAC Men's Ice Hockey Tournament
History Though the MIAC has been playing ice hockey since the 1920s, the league did not play a conference tournament until 1986. The championship served as a capstone for the MIAC season and was used as a final argument for a bid to the Division III NCAA Tournament. Despite not possessing an automatic bid the MIAC tournament champion was selected for the National Tournament each year. For the first four seasons the tournament had all rounds played as two-game total-goal series but changed to single-elimination for all round beginning with the 1990 tournament. Five years later the format was again changed, this time to a two-game point system where the first team to three points would win; one point was awarded for a tie and two points for a win.
