2000 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship
The 2000 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship was the 106th staging of the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Kilkenny County Board in 1887. The championship began on 19 August 2000 and ended on 22 October 2000. Glenmore were the defending champions, however, they were defeated by O'Loughlin Gaels at the semi-final stage. On 15 October 2000, Graigue-Ballycallan won the title after a 0–16 to 0–09 defeat of O'Loughlin Gaels in the final at Nowlan Park. It was their second championship title overall and their first title in two championship seasons. It remains their last championship triumph. Nigel Skehan of the O'Loughlin Gaels club was the championship's top scorer with 2-23. Thomastown (), historically known as Grennan, is a town in County Kilkenny in the province of Leinster in the south-east of Ireland. It is a market town along a stretch of the River Nore which is known for its salmon and trout, with a number of historical landmarks in the vicinity. Jimmy Coogan
James Michael Coogan (born 24 April 1978) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a left wing-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Tullaroan, County Kilkenny, Coogan first played competitive hurling during his schooling at St. Kieran's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Kilkenny minor team before later joining the under-21 side. He joined the senior team during the 2000 championship. Coogan later became a regular member of the starting fifteen, and won two All-Ireland medals and one National Hurling League medal. As a member of the Leinster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions, Coogan won one Railway Cup medal. At club level he played with Tullaroan. His brother, Ken, was also an All-Ireland medallist with Kilkenny. Throughout his career Coogan made 11 championship appearances. Brian Dowling (hurler)
Brian Martin Dowling (born 7 March 1983) is an Irish hurler who played as a right corner-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. He is now the manager of the Kilkenny senior camogie team. Brother of former Kilkenny hurler Seán, Dowling joined the hurling team during the 2002 National League and was a regular member of the team for just two seasons. During that time he won one Leinster winners' medal and one National Hurling League winners' medal on the field of play. At club level Dowling is a two-time Leinster medalist with O'Loughlin Gaels. John Hoyne
John Joseph Hoyne (born 2 April 1978) is a former Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Graigue–Ballycallan and he used play with the Kilkenny senior inter-county team from 2000 until 2005. Playing career Club Hoyne plays his club hurling with his local Graigue–Ballycallan club and has enjoyed much success. He won both county minor and under-21 honours with the club before playing in four successive senior county finals from 1998 until 2001. Hoyne ended up on the winning side in 1998 and 2000. Inter-county Hoyne first came to prominence on the inter-county scene at underage levels. He won Leinster medals in both minor and under-21 with Kilkenny before later joining the county senior team. Adrian Ronan
Adrian Ronan (born 8 June 1970) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a full-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Ballycallan, County Kilkenny, Ronan first played competitive hurling during his schooling at St. Kieran's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first lined up with the Kilkenny minor team before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 1988-89 league. Ronan went on to become a regular member of the starting fifteen and won two All-Ireland medals, three Leinster medal and one National Hurling League medal. Henry Shefflin
Henry Shefflin (born 11 January 1979) is an Irish hurling manager and former player who is the current manager of the Galway senior hurling team. In his playing career he was nicknamed "King Henry" because of his directive style, dominance, competitive spirit and leadership on the field. A versatile forward who started out in the corner, Shefflin made his name in more commanding positions as a centre or full-forward. He is widely regarded to be one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, with many former players, commentators and fans rating him as the number one player of all time. Callan () is a town and civil parish in County Kilkenny in Ireland. Situated 16 km (10 mi) south of Kilkenny on the N76 road to Clonmel, it is near the border with County Tipperary. Dicksboro is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Kilkenny City, Ireland. History Dicksboro GAA Club, founded in 1909. The club takes its name from Dicksboro townland, located next to Kilkenny Airport, the current ground is Palmerstown, to the west of the city. Dicksboro entered and won the junior championship of 1910. Dicksboro entered the senior championship in 1911. Dicksboro had no team from 1961 to 1969, until the club was reformed. Freshford () is a village and former town in the barony of Crannagh, County Kilkenny, Ireland. History The village is the site of a monastery dating to the early 7th century.
