2000 Big East Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2000 Big East men's basketball tournament took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Its winner received the Big East Conference's automatic bid to the 2000 NCAA tournament. It is a single-elimination tournament with four rounds and the three highest seeds received byes in the first round. All 13 Big East teams were invited to participate. Syracuse finished with the best record in the regular season and was awarded the top seed. St. John's defeated Connecticut in the final, 80–70 to earn its first Big East tournament championship since 1986, and third overall. Madison Square Garden, colloquially known as The Garden or by its initials MSG, is a multi-purpose indoor arena in New York City. It is located in Midtown Manhattan between Seventh and Eighth avenues from 31st to 33rd Street, above Pennsylvania Station. The 1999–2000 Notre Dame Fighting Irish men's basketball team represented the University of Notre Dame during the 1999–2000 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They finished the regular season with a record of 22–15, 8-8. The team's sole loss was by a 61–75 score against Wake Forest in the NIT Tournament. Andre Lavor Postell (born February 26, 1978) is an American former professional basketball player. Following a college career at St. John's University, he was selected by the New York Knicks in the second round of the 2000 NBA draft. He played three seasons with the Knicks showing promise when Allan Houston and Latrell Sprewell were sidelined by injuries. During his career, Postell played in 61 games and averaged 3.2 points. His final NBA game was played on April 15, 2003, in a 93–109 loss to the Indiana Pacers where he recorded 4 points and 1 assist. After playing in the NBA, Postell played in Europe and Latin America. Khalid El-Amin
Khalid El-Amin (born April 25, 1979) is a retired American professional basketball player. He was a member of the 1999 University of Connecticut men's basketball team that won the NCAA championship. He is originally from Minnesota where he played for North High School in Minneapolis. In 2000, he was selected in the 2nd round by the Chicago Bulls of the NBA Draft and played 50 games for them, averaging 6.3 points and 2.9 assists per game. He played professionally in several countries, mainly in Europe. Erick Barkley
Erick Barkley (born February 21, 1978) is an American former professional basketball player. Born in Queens, New York, he played high school basketball at Christ the King Regional High School and the Maine Central Institute and college basketball at St. John's University. He was named First Team All-Big East and an All-American honorable mention in 2000. Barkley was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers in 2000, and played for the team for two seasons. Career In high school, Barkley was a starter on the AAU team the Riverside Hawks, along with future professional basketball players Lamar Odom, Ron Artest, Elton Brand, and Anthony Glover. In 1996, the team went 66-1 in AAU play. Barkley and Artest would both later star at St. John's together, and led the team to the Elite Eight in the 1999 NCAA Tournament.
