1997 Copa América
Bolivia hosted the Copa América for the second time in its 38th edition. It was held from 11 to 29 June. It was organized by CONMEBOL, South America's football governing body. There is no qualifying for the final tournament. All South American countries (10 countries) participate, along with two more invited countries, making a total of 12 teams competing in the tournament. In the 1997 edition, Costa Rica and Mexico were the invitees. The tournament was won by Brazil, who became the first team to hold the Copa América and the World Cup at the same time, a feat they would repeat in 2004. Claudio Husaín
Claudio Daniel Husaín (born 20 November 1974) is an Argentine former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Husaín played for Vélez Sársfield and River Plate in Argentina, Italian S.S.C. Napoli and Mexican Tigres de la UANL before returning to Argentina to Newell's Old Boys. Club career Parma, Napoli and River Plate In 2000, Husaín was signed by Parma, with Mayer Candelo going the other way. But the club had unpaid debt of Hernán Crespo's transfer fees to River Plate (the 10% clause of future transfer revenue), he was loaned to River Plate along with Ariel Ortega, who was sold outright for 11 billion lire. On 27 October 2000, he moved back to Italy to play for Napoli, later revealed as a temporary deal. Despite Napoli relegated, in June 2001 Parma sold him for 21.9 billion lire (around €11.3 million). Pablo Rotchen
Pablo Oscar Rotchen Suárez (born 23 April 1973 in Buenos Aires) is a retired Argentine football defender who played for the Argentina national team in Copa América 1997. Rotchen started his professional career playing for Club Atlético Independiente on November 22, 1992, in a 1–0 away win against Boca Juniors in the Bombonera. From there he went on to make over 200 appearances for the club in all competitions. Rotchen helped Independiente to win the Clausura 1994 championship. They also won the Supercopa Sudamericana in 1994 and 1995 and the Recopa Sudamericana in 1995. Rotchen joined RCD Espanyol in 1999 and was part of the squad that won the Copa del Rey in 2000. In 2002, he joined team Monterrey where he was part of the squad that won the Clausura 2003 championship. He retired in 2005. Carlos Roa
Carlos Ángel Roa (born 15 August 1969) is an Argentine former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He is the current goalkeeper coach of Greek Super League club AEK Athens. Most of his professional career was spent with Racing Avellaneda and in Spain with Mallorca, winning one major trophy with the latter. Roa was first-choice for the Argentina national team at the 1998 World Cup. Club career Born in Santa Fe, Roa started playing professionally for Racing Club de Avellaneda, making his Primera División debut on 6 November 1988 at the age of 19. During a summer tour of Africa with the club he contracted malaria, but fully recovered. Martín Posse
Martín Andrés Posse Paz (born 2 August 1975) is an Argentine football manager and former player. He played mainly as a forward. Club career Born in San Justo, Buenos Aires, Posse began his professional career with Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield, being part of its successful teams in the mid-1990s and making over 100 appearances in all competitions. He helped the club to three top division titles and four international tournaments, including the 1994 Copa Libertadores. Posse joined Spanish side RCD Espanyol in 1999, going on to become one of the club's most important offensive elements in the subsequent La Liga seasons, although never an undisputed starter. Mauricio Andrés Pellegrino Luna (; born 5 October 1971) is an Argentine former professional footballer who played as a centre-back, currently the manager of Chilean club Universidad de Chile. After nearly one decade with Vélez Sarsfield, Pellegrino spent the vast majority of his remaining career in Spain, amassing La Liga totals of 176 games and five goals over the course of eight seasons for three clubs, notably Valencia with which he won three titles (he won nine while in Argentina). Roberto Carlos Monserrat (born 13 September 1968 in Córdoba) is an Argentine former football midfielder. He played for the Argentina national team and won several major championships with River Plate.
