1964 NCAA Soccer Championship
The 1964 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Tournament, NCAA soccer tournament was the sixth annual tournament organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association to determine the national champion of men's College soccer in the United States, college soccer among its members in the United States. This tournament featured fifteen teams, a decrease of one team from the previous year. The tournament final was played at Brown Stadium in Providence, Rhode Island on December 5. Navy Midshipmen men's soccer, Navy, in their second straight title game appearance, won their first title, defeating Michigan State Spartans men's soccer, Michigan State in the final, 1–0. In the title game, all-time lacrosse Hall of Famer Jimmy Lewis (lacrosse), Jimmy Lewis scored the game's only goal. Lewis was named the tournament outstanding player. Richard Gouse Field at Brown Stadium is a football stadium located in Providence, Rhode Island. It is the home of Brown University's football and outdoor track teams. The athletic teams at Brown University, known as the Bears, compete in the Ivy League. Brown was the last Ivy stadium with a grass playing field until the installation of a FieldTurf surface in 2021. Trenton State defeated Lincoln (PA) in the final, 3–0, to claim the Lions' first NAIA national title. The final was played at Montclair State College in Upper Montclair, New Jersey. The LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds were the athletic teams representing Long Island University's campus in Brooklyn, New York in intercollegiate athletics, including men's and women's basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, and track; women's-only bowling, lacrosse, softball, tennis, and volleyball; and men's-only baseball.
