1901 Constitution Of Cuba
The 1901 Constitution of Cuba took effect in Cuba on 20 May 1902, and governments operated under it until it was replaced by the 1940 Constitution of Cuba. It was adopted by delegates to a Constitutional Convention in February 1901, but the United States, then exercising military authority over Cuba following the end of Cuba's war for independence from Spain, withheld its approval until the Convention amended the Constitution in June to incorporate language from a U.S. statute, the Platt Amendment, that placed limitations on Cuban sovereignty and provided a legal basis for future U.S. military interventions in Cuba. Pedro Betancourt, sometimes shortened as Betancourt, is a municipality and town in the Matanzas Province of Cuba. It is located in the center of the province, west of Jagüey Grande and east of Unión de Reyes. It was founded in 1833. History Its original name was Corral Falso de Macurijes. Pedro Betancourt's name comes from a famous Spanish-Cuban patriot, Pedro Estanislao Betancourt Dávalos, who was one of the Major-General in the independence war, waged by the Cuban natives against the Spanish Crown. Gonzalo De Quesada Y Aróstegui
Gonzalo de Quesada (December 15, 1868 - January 9, 1915) was a key architect of Cuba's Independence Movement with José Martí during the late 19th century. He received the National Order of the Legion of Honour of France. Biography He was born in Havana on December 15, 1868. His family moved to New York City, where he was educated. While in the United States, he attended City College of New York before graduating from Columbia University. During his undergraduate career he was initiated into Theta Delta Chi. He soon pursued a law degree, graduating from New York University in 1891. While in New York, de Quesada came in contact with Martí after attending several rallies for Cuban exiles. Juan Gualberto Gómez Ferrer (July 12, 1854 – March 5, 1933) was an Afro-Cuban revolutionary leader in the Cuban War of Independence against Spain. He was a "close collaborator of Martí's," and alongside him helped plan the uprising and unite the island's black population behind the rebellion. He was an activist for independence and a journalist who worked on and later founded several pivotal anti-royalist and pro-racial equality newspapers. José Miguel Gómez
José Miguel Gómez y Arias (6 July 1858 – 13 June 1921) was a Cuban politician and revolutionary who was one of the leaders of the rebel forces in the History of Cuba, Cuban War of Independence. He later served as President of Cuba from 1909 to 1913. Early career At the Constitutional Convention, Gómez was one of those who voted in favor of adopting the Platt Amendment. Born in Sancti Spíritus, in the former Las Villas Province, Gómez went on to govern Santa Clara and became quite popular in Cuba. In 1905, Gómez planned to run for the presidency with Alfredo Zayas on behalf of the Liberals. Violence prevented the Liberals from winning much in the election so Gómez dropped out of the running.
