1999–2000 Calgary Flames Season
The 1999–2000 Calgary Flames season was the 20th National Hockey League season in Calgary. It featured a very young line-up, as befitted the "Young Guns" slogan the team was using at the time. Western Conference (NHL)
The Western Conference () is one of two conferences in the National Hockey League (NHL) used to divide teams. Its counterpart is the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference. History Originally named the Clarence Campbell Conference (or Campbell Conference for short), it was created in 1974–75 NHL season, 1974 when the NHL realigned its teams into two conferences and four divisions. Because the new conferences and divisions had little to do with North American geography, geographical references were removed. Andreas Karlsson
Andreas John Karlsson (born August 19, 1975) is a Swedish former professional ice hockey player. Playing career Karlsson is a good skater and playmaker with good technical skills. During the season 2005–06, he has also shown that he is an efficient goal scorer. He is sometimes called "''Pastorn''", which is Swedish for "''The Pastor''". He played his first international game with Team Sweden on December 16, 1995, against Czech Republic in Helsinki, Finland. 1999 NHL Expansion Draft
The 1999 NHL expansion draft was an expansion draft held by the National Hockey League (NHL) to fill the roster of the league's expansion team for the 1999–2000 season, the Atlanta Thrashers. The draft took place on June 25, 1999, in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S. Rules The Thrashers were to select 26 players, one from each existing franchise (except for the Nashville Predators) at the time of the draft. Each franchise was allowed to protect either one goaltender, five defensemen, and nine forwards or two goaltenders, three defensemen, and seven forwards. Teams which lost goaltenders in the 1998 NHL expansion draft (Anaheim, Los Angeles, Montreal, New Jersey and the New York Rangers) could not lose a goaltender in the 1999 draft. Atlanta Thrashers
The Atlanta Thrashers were a professional ice hockey team based in Atlanta. Atlanta was granted a franchise in the National Hockey League (NHL) on June 25, 1997, and became the League's 28th franchise when it began play in the 1999–2000 NHL season, 1999–2000 season. Ed Ward (ice Hockey)
Edward J. Ward (born November 10, 1969) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. Ward played 278 games for five teams. Playing career Ward was drafted by the Quebec Nordiques in the sixth round, 108th overall in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. Ward chose to play NCAA hockey for Northern Michigan University before turning pro. He helped lead NMU to the 1991 NCAA title. In 1991, he began his pro career with the Greensboro Monarchs of the East Coast Hockey League, eventually cracking the Nordiques roster in 1993–94. Ward played only seven games with the Nords before being sent to the Calgary Flames. Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy
The Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to the National Hockey League player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey. It is named after Bill Masterton, the only player in NHL history to die as a direct result of injuries suffered during a game. The winner is selected by a poll of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association after each team nominates one player in competition. The 2000 NHL All-Star Game was the 50th All-Star Game in the National Hockey League. It took place on February 6, 2000, at Air Canada Centre in Toronto, home to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The last time Toronto hosted prior was the 1968 NHL All-Star Game. The 1st NHL All-Star Game took place in 1947 and was also hosted by Toronto. Rich Preston
Richard John "Rich" Preston (born May 22, 1952) is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former forward. He played hockey for the Houston Aeros and Winnipeg Jets of the World Hockey Association and the Chicago Black Hawks of the National Hockey League. He won the Avco World Trophy in 1975 with Houston and 1979 with Winnipeg, and his play in the 1979 WHA playoffs awarded him the WHA Playoff MVP, the last to be awarded by the league prior to the NHL-WHA merger.
