1999 Patriot League Men's Basketball Tournament
The 1999 Patriot League men's basketball tournament was played at Christl Arena in West Point, New York and Cotterell Court in Hamilton, New York after the conclusion of the 1998–99 regular season. Lafayette defeated #3 seed , 67–63 in the championship game, to win its first Patriot League Tournament title. The Leopards earned an automatic bid to the 1999 NCAA tournament as #15 seed in the East region. Format All seven league members participated in the tournament, with teams seeded according to regular season conference record. Play began with the quarterfinal round. Christl Arena
Edward C. Christl Jr. Arena is a 5,043-seat, multi-purpose arena in West Point, New York. It was built in 1985 as part of the Major Donald W. Holleder Center, which also houses Tate Rink. It is home to the United States Military Academy's Army Black Knights men's and women's basketball teams. It was named after 1st Lieutenant Edward C. Christl Jr. '44, a former basketball captain who was killed in combat in Austria during World War II while serving with the 65th Infantry Division. Maj. Holleder, '56, the namesake of the athletic center, was an All-American football and basketball player killed in combat in Vietnam in 1967. 1999 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament
The 1999 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 64 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball. It began on March 11, 1999, and ended with the championship game on March 29 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. A total of 63 games were played. Cotterell Court
Cotterell Court is a 1,750-seat multi-purpose arena in Hamilton, New York. It was built in 1959 and is home to the Colgate University Raiders basketball and volleyball teams. It is named for Wesley M. Cotterell '19, a two-time letterwinner in basketball and school trustee. The basketball arena was built as the northern half of the William A. Reid Athletic Center, a twin barrel-vaulted complex which also houses Starr Rink. The complex is located on the western side of campus next to Andy Kerr Stadium and across Broad Street from Huntington Gymnasium, the school's former athletics facility. The hardwood was replaced in 2016 for the first time since the venue's opening. The gym has bleacher seating on three sides, with the main sides being the east and west sides and a much shorter section on the north side. The Patriot League men's basketball tournament is held at the conclusion of each regular season. The winner of the tournament is awarded an automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship. Brian Ehlers
Brian Ehlers (born January 26, 1978) is an American former professional basketball player who is best known for his collegiate career at Lafayette College from 1996–97 to 1999–2000 NCAA Division I men's basketball season, 1999–2000. He then played professionally for two seasons in Europe before retiring from the sport to become a police officer in his hometown of Bay Shore, New York since 2007. College Ehlers spent his prep days playing for his hometown's Bay Shore High School, where as a senior he averaged 31.4 points per game and was named Suffolk County Player of the Year. After graduating in 1996, he continued his career at Lafayette. In his four seasons, Ehlers established himself as one of the more decorated players in school and Patriot League history.
