The 1998–1999 Úrvalsdeild kvenna was the 41st season of the Úrvalsdeild kvenna, the top tier women's basketball league in Iceland. The season started on October 3, 1998 and ended on April 3, 1999. KR won its eleventh title by defeating Keflavík Keflavík (pronounced , meaning ''Driftwood Bay'') is a town in the Reykjanes region in southwest Iceland. The 1997–1998 Úrvalsdeild kvenna was the 41st season of the top-tier women's basketball league in Iceland. The season started on 4 October 1997 and ended on 28 March 1998. Keflavík won its 14th title after defeating KR 3–1 in the Finals. Competition format The participating teams first played a conventional round-robin schedule with every team playing each opponent twice "home" and twice "away" for a total of 16 games. The top four teams qualified for the championship playoffs while none was relegated to the second-tier Division I due to vacant berth. Regular season Six teams started the season, down from seven the previous season. In end of October 1997, Breiðablik withdrew its team from the league after suffering loopside losses in their four games. Limor Mizrachi
Limor Mizrachi (; born June 24, 1970) is an Israeli former professional basketball player and a former member of the Israeli women's national basketball team. During her career, she won a total of seven national championships in Croatia, Iceland, Israel and Poland. College Mizrachi played for Maryland during the 1991–92 season. She started all 30 games for the Terrapins and helped them reach the National Collegiate Athletic Association East Regional final. She left the school and returned to Israel after her mother was diagnosed with cancer. Career In 1997, Mizrachi tried out for the New York Liberty but did not make the final cut. In 1998, Mizrachi became the first Israeli to play professional basketball in the United States when she played for New England Blizzard in the American Basketball League until it folded on December 22, 1998. Alda Leif Jónsdóttir (born 18 April 1979) is an Icelandic former basketball player. She has won the Icelandic championship four times and the Dutch championship once. Alda was a seven-time selection for the Úrvalsdeild Domestic All-First Team and was named the Úrvalsdeild Domestic Player of the Year in 2002. Club career During the 1999–2000 season, Alda led the Úrvalsdeild in assists, blocks, steals, shooting percent and free throw percent. Signý Hermannsdóttir (born 16 January 1979) is an Icelandic former basketball player. She was named the Icelandic Women's Basketball Player of the Year in 2003 and was a six-time selection to the Úrvalsdeild kvenna Domestic All-First Team. She won the Icelandic championship in 2010 with KR. Career After graduating from Cameron University, Signý joined Spanish club Isla de Tenerife in 2003. Guðbjörg Norðfjörð Elíasdóttir (born 8 April 1972) is an Icelandic former basketball player and the former chairman of the Icelandic Basketball Federation. As a player, she was named the Icelandic Women's Basketball Player of the Year in 1999 and was a seven-time selection to the Úrvalsdeild kvenna Domestic All-First Team. Anna María Sveinsdóttir
Anna María Sveinsdóttir (born 22 November 1969) is an Icelandic former basketball player and coach. She won twelve Icelandic championships and eleven Icelandic basketball cups, and is regarded as one of the best women's players in Icelandic basketball history. She was the first player to break the 5000 points barrier in Úrvalsdeild kvenna and finished her career as its all-time leading scorer with 5001 points in 324 games.
