1998 French Open – Women's Doubles
Martina Hingis and Jana Novotná defeated the defending champion Natasha Zvereva and her partner Lindsay Davenport in the final, 6–1, 7–6(7–4) to win the women's doubles tennis title at the 1998 French Open. They did not drop a single set en route to the title. It was the second step in an eventual Grand Slam for Hingis. Gigi Fernández and Zvereva were the reigning champions, but Fernández retired from tennis at the end of 1997. Larisa Savchenko-Neiland (, ; née Savchenko; also Larisa Neiland; born 21 July 1966) is a tennis coach and former professional player who represented the Soviet Union and Latvia. A former world No. 1 doubles player, Neiland won six Grand Slam titles: two in List of Grand Slam women's doubles champions, women's doubles and four in List of Grand Slam mixed doubles champions, mixed doubles. She also won two singles titles and 63 doubles titles on the WTA Tour. Barbara Schett Eagle (; born 10 March 1976) is an Austrian former professional tennis player, who reached her highest singles ranking of world No. 7 in September 1999. Between 1993 and 2004 she played in 48 matches for the Austria Fed Cup team, winning 30. Miriam Oremans (born 9 September 1972) is a former professional female tennis player from the Netherlands. On 26 July 1993 she reached her career-high singles ranking of number 25. Sabine Appelmans (born 22 April 1972) is a former professional tennis player from Belgium. She was Belgium's Fed Cup Captain (sports), captain from 2007 until 2011.
