The 1998 Boston Red Sox season was the 98th season in the franchise's Major League Baseball history. The Red Sox finished second in the American League East with a record of 92–70, twenty-two games behind the New York Yankees, who went on to win the 1998 World Series. The Red Sox qualified for the postseason as the AL wild card but lost to the American League Central champion Cleveland Indians in the ALDS. The American League East is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. MLB consists of an East, Central, and West division for each of its two 15-team leagues, the American League (AL) and National League (baseball), National League (NL). The Arizona Diamondbacks are an American professional baseball team based in Phoenix, Arizona. Jeffrey Scot Suppan (; born January 2, 1975) is an American former professional baseball pitcher and current professional baseball coach who played 17 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). Aaron Sele
Aaron Helmer Sele (born June 25, 1970) is an American former Major League Baseball (MLB) right-handed pitcher. Sele debuted with the Boston Red Sox in 1993. He was traded to the Texas Rangers (baseball), Texas Rangers after the 1997 season and was named to the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, All-Star team in 1998. He signed as a free agent with the Seattle Mariners in 2000 and became an All-Star for the second and final time that season.
