First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is of three or more days scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but the term was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the International Cricket Council, Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. A significant omission of the ICC ruling was any attempt to define first-class cricket retrospectively. Jo Angel
Jo Angel (born 22 April 1968) is an Australian former cricketer who played in four Test matches and three One Day Internationals from 1993 to 1995. A giant fast bowler standing tall, Angel took 485 first-class wickets, including 445 in Australian domestic cricket for Western Australia. Biography Born in Mount Lawley, Western Australia, Angel made his Test debut against the West Indies at the WACA Ground in 1993, forcing Desmond Haynes to retire hurt after hitting him in the face with a short ball. He toured Sri Lanka in 1994 for the Singer Cup one-day tournament with some degree of success as the other Australian pacemen struggled in the heat and slow conditions. However he did not make a consistent impact and was dropped shortly after. Dean Jones (cricketer)
Dean Mervyn Jones (24 March 196124 September 2020) was an Australian cricket player, coach and commentator who played Test cricket, Tests and One Day Internationals (ODIs) for Australia national cricket team, Australia. He had an excellent record in Test cricket and is best remembered for revolutionising the ODI format. Jones was a part of the Australian team that won their first world title during the 1987 Cricket World Cup. Through the late 1980s and early 1990s, he was recognised as among the best ODI batsmen in the world, a view which has been validated in the retrospective ICC Player Rankings. Justin Langer
Justin Lee Langer (born 21 November 1970) is an Australian cricket coach and former cricketer. He is the former coach of the Australia men's national team, having been appointed to the role in May 2018 and leaving in February 2022 and became the coach of Lucknow based IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants in July, 2023. Laurie Harper
Laurence Damien Harper (born 10 December 1970 in Deniliquin, New South Wales) was an Australian first-class cricketer who played for the Victorian Bushrangers as a left-handed middle order batsman. He played 38 first class games for the Bushrangers, making 2316 runs at 36.18 with 5 hundreds and took one wicket. He was regarded as one of the best slip fieldsman of the time which was fortunate as speed in the covers was not a strong point. Daryl Harper
Daryl John Harper (born 23 October 1951) is an Australian cricket umpire, who was a Test umpire between 1998 and 2011. He was a member of the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires from 2002 until 2011 when the ICC announced that Harper was being stood down at the termination of his contract in July 2011. In June 2011, following criticism from India during the India - West Indies Test series Harper retired from umpiring. Biography Harper was born on 23 October 1951, in Mile End, South Australia, and attended Norwood High School before taking up primary school teaching. Darrell Hair
Darrell Bruce Hair (born 30 September 1952) is an Australian former Test match cricket umpire, from New South Wales. He was on the International panel of umpires from 2002 to 2003, before he, along with fellow Australian Simon Taufel, and New Zealander Billy Bowden, was appointed to the ICC Elite umpire panel. After an ICC board meeting discussed his actions in a Test match between Pakistan and England in 2006 it was decided he should not umpire matches involving the Test playing nations. He was restored to the Elite Panel by the ICC on 12 March 2008 and stood in the England v New Zealand Tests at Old Trafford in May and Trent Bridge in June 2008.
