1996–97 S.L. Benfica Season
The 1996–97 European football season was the 93rd season of Sport Lisboa e Benfica's existence and the club's 63rd consecutive season in the top flight of Portuguese football. The season ran from 1 July 1996 to 30 June 1997; Benfica competed domestically in the Primeira Divisão and the Taça de Portugal. The club also participated in the UEFA Cup Winners Cup as a result of winning the previous Taça de Portugal. To manage the team in the new season, Benfica appointed Paulo Autuori. The Brazilian had just won the Brasileirão with Botafogo and was working in the background with the club since January 1996. Manuel Damásio
Manuel Damásio Soares Garcia (born 9 July 1940), known as Manuel Damásio, is a Portuguese businessman who served as the 30th president of sports club S.L. Benfica. Born in Lisbon, Damásio was elected president of Benfica on 7 January 1994 with 87% of the votes, defeating candidate and friend José Capristano. Shortly after succeeding Jorge de Brito, Benfica won the Portuguese league title in football. Damásio then started a campaign to attract new members to the club to overcome financial difficulties, raising the number of associates from 83,000 to 150,000. He also tried to lower the club's debt with Parmalat as a sponsor; however, it did not help much. Daniel Kenedy Pimentel Mateus dos Santos (born 18 February 1974), known as Kenedy, is a Portuguese retired footballer. A midfielder or defender, he played on the left side of the pitch. He appeared in 198 Primeira Liga matches over 11 seasons (13 goals), mainly in representation of Benfica and Estrela da Amadora. He also competed professionally in France, Spain, Cyprus and Greece. Paulo Jorge Gomes Bento (; born 20 June 1969) is a Portuguese football manager and former player. A defensive midfielder with tackling ability and workrate as his main assets, he played for two of the major three teams in his country, amassing Primeira Liga totals of 284 matches and 16 goals over 11 seasons, and also spent four years in Spain. He represented the Portuguese national team in the 2002 World Cup and Euro 2000. Ricardo Gomes Raymundo (born 13 December 1964) is a Brazilian retired professional footballer and manager. Ronaldo Guiaro
Ronaldo Guiaro (born 18 February 1974) is a Brazilian professional football coach and former player who is the assistant coach of XV de Piracicaba. As a player, he was a centre-back who began his career at Guarani and went on to spend most of his playing years in Europe, notably for Benfica and Beşiktaş. Jorge Hernán Bermúdez Morales (born 18 June 1971) is a retired Colombian football defender. He played 56 times for the Colombia national team between 1995 and 2001. Playing career Bermúdez played at the club level for several teams in Colombia including Deportes Quindío, América de Cali, Deportivo Quevedo, Deportivo Pereira and Independiente Santa Fe. Jamir Adriano Paz Gomes (born 13 May 1972) is a retired Brazilian professional footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. The 1995 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A was the 39th edition of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. Overview It was contested by 24 teams, and Botafogo won the championship, the club's second Série A title in history. Of the 24 participating teams, only two were relegated, Paysandu and União São João. Also only the first two teams from the Série B in 1995 would be qualified to the Série A in 1996. 1995–96 Taça De Portugal
The 1995–96 Taça de Portugal was the 57th edition of the Portuguese football knockout tournament organized by the Portuguese Football Federation. The 1995–96 Taça de Portugal began in September 1995 and concluded with the final at the Estádio Nacional on 18 May 1996. Sporting CP were the previous holders, having defeated Marítimo 2–0 in the previous season's final. Benfica defeated Sporting 3–1 in the final to win their 23rd Taça de Portugal.
