The 1996 NCAA Division II women's basketball tournament was the 15th annual NCAA Division II women's basketball tournament, tournament hosted by the NCAA to determine the national champion of NCAA Division II, Division II women's college basketball, collegiate basketball in the United States. Three-time defending champions North Dakota State Bison women's basketball, North Dakota State defeated Shippensburg Raiders women's basketball, Shippensburg in the championship game, 104–78, to claim the Bison's fifth NCAA Division II national title. Salem University is a private for-profit university in Salem, West Virginia. It has about 250 students on campus and about 600 online students that are enrolled in undergraduate as well as graduate programs. The university was founded by the Seventh Day Baptist Church in 1888. The North Dakota Fighting Hawks women's basketball team is part of the athletic program at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota. It is a member of the NCAA Division I Summit League; the 2019–2020 season was their first in the new conference. The MSU Denver Roadrunners are the athletic teams that represent Metropolitan State University of Denver. The Roadrunners participate in 15 intercollegiate sports and compete in the Division II Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Scheels Center is a 5,460 seat multi-purpose arena in Fargo, North Dakota. It was built in 1970 and was home to the North Dakota State University Bison basketball and North Dakota State Bison wrestling, wrestling teams through the 2013–14 season. It was previously named the Bison Sports Arena. The main facility was renamed the Sanford Health Athletic Complex and the basketball arena was renamed the Scheels Center. The Northern Michigan Wildcats are the athletic teams that represent Northern Michigan University, located in Marquette, Michigan, in NCAA intercollegiate sporting competitions.
