1995 Women's World Allround Speed Skating Championships
The 56th edition of the Women's World Allround Speed Skating Championships was held on 3 and 4 March 1995 at the Savalen kunstisbane in Savalen, Norway. 26 speed skaters from 14 countries participated. It was the final edition held separately for women. From 1996 onward the men's and women's World Allround Speed Skating Championships would be combined into a single tournament. Gunda Niemann won the world title ahead of Lyudmila Prokasheva and Annamarie Thomas. It was her fourth world title after 1991, 1992 and 1993. Savalen
Savalen is a lake in Innlandet country, Norway. The lake is located along the border of the municipalities Tynset and Alvdal. The lake sits about west of the village of Tynset and about north of the village of Alvdal. The river Sivilla, which connects the lake Savalen and the large river Glomma, is regulated and exploited by the Savalen hydropower station. A tourist resort is located at the northern end of the lake, with facilities for winter sports. The skating stadium is the highest elevation skating venue in Norway. This venue saw two speed skating world records set by Eric Heiden, a world record in 1,000 m in 1978 and a world record in 3,000 m speedskating in 1979. Tonny De Jong
Tonny de Jong (born 17 July 1974) is a former Dutch speed skater, who was raised in Heerenveen and now lives in Calgary with Canadian speed skater Mark Knoll, whom she married in 2003. She won three Dutch Allround Championships and numerous gold medals on the 3000 m and the 5000 m at the Dutch Single Distance Championships. In 1997 and 1999 she became European Allround Champion. De Jong was the first skater who mastered the clap skate.
