1995 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Cup
The 1995 FIVB Men's World Cup was held from 18 November to 2 December 1995 in Japan. Twelve men's national teams played in cities all over Japan for the right to a fast lane ticket into the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. The first three qualified. The twelve competing teams played a single-round robin format, in two parallel groups (site A and site B). The men played in Tokyo, Sendai, Fukushima, Chiba, Hiroshima, Kumamoto, and Kagoshima. Andrea Giani
Andrea Giani (; born 22 April 1970) is an Italian professional volleyball coach and former player who serves as head coach for the France national team and the Polish PlusLiga team, ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle. Giani achieved numerous successes in the 1990s, including three World Championships with his national team. He was an all-rounder able to play both as an outside hitter and as a middle blocker, but he played several times as an opposite spiker too. In 2008, Giani was inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame. Career Giani's father, Dario, was a rower who took part in the 1964 Summer Olympics for Italy. After having trained with his father, now a rowing coach, Andrea tried for brief period as a football player. Julio Velasco
Julio Velasco (born 9 February 1952) is an Argentine former professional volleyball player and coach. He obtained Italian citizenship in 1992. Velasco was inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2005. He is the head coach of the Italy women's national volleyball team, which he led to the gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Career Player Julio Velasco began playing volleyball at the age of 15 for National University of La Plata Club. David Bellini (volleyball)
David Bellini (7 November 1972 – 20 October 2016) was an Italian screenwriter, television writer, story editor and docu-director. Screenwriter of the famous TV series ''Un medico in famiglia'', head writer of the Italian programs: ''Tetris'' and ''Festa italiana'', creator and director of a number of docu-series such as ''Passaggi Segreti'' and ''Tra cielo e terra''. Vigor Bovolenta
Vigor Bovolenta (30 May 1974 – 24 March 2012) was a volleyball player from Italy. Bovolenta was part of the men's national team that won the gold medal at the 1995 European Championship in Greece and the silver medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Andrea Zorzi
Andrea Zorzi (born 29 July 1965) is an Italian former volleyball player, won two World Championships with the Italy men's national volleyball team (1990 and 1994). A 201 cm athlete, Zorzi was an effective spiker who played as an opposite hitter. He was popularly known as "Zorro". In 1991, he was declared World's Best Player by the FIVB. In 2024, Zorzi was inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame. National team Zorzi was the 1990 FIVB World League MVP after helping Italy win the gold medal, and was at one point reputedly the world's highest paid volleyball player. Pasquale Gravina
Pasquale Gravina (born 1 May 1970) is a manager and a former Italian professional volleyball player. Athlete Gravina is 201 cm and played as middle attacker. After some experiences for minor leagues, he made his debut in the Italian Volleyball League first division in 1988, for Falconara. His qualities, especially in block actions, made him a choice for a top team: Maxicono Parma in 1990. In this club he won the ''scudetto'' in 1992 and 1993. Later he played from 1996 until 2001 for Sisley Volley where he won the national title three times more. Then he played for Lube Volley in which he won the Champions League in 2002 and the Italian Cup in 2003. Andrea Gardini (born 1 October 1965) is an Italian professional volleyball coach and former player, a silver ( Atlanta 1996) and bronze ( Sydney 2000) Olympic Games medallist, three–time World Champion (1990, 1994, 1998), and four–time European Champion (1989, 1993, 1995, 1999). Lorenzo Bernardi
Lorenzo Bernardi (born 11 August 1968) is an Italian professional volleyball coach and former player, a silver medallist at the Olympic Games Atlanta 1996, two–time World Champion (1990, 1994), and a two–time European Champion (1989, 1995). Andrea Sartoretti (born 19 June 1971) is an Italian former volleyball player. Biography Born at Perugia, Sartoretti debuted in the Italian Serie in 1991, winning the Award as best Under 23 player.
