1994–95 Hartford Whalers Season
The 1994–95 Hartford Whalers season was the 23rd season of the franchise, 16th season in the NHL. Despite trading away star forward Pat Verbeek to the New York Rangers on March 23, 1995, the Whalers played solid over the next 16 games from March 25 to April 24, with a record of 8-7-1. However, the Whalers could not keep pace with the New York Rangers who went on to take 8th place in the Eastern Conference. It was the third consecutive season that the Whalers missed the playoffs. On a positive note, the Whalers had the most overtime wins and the best overtime record in the NHL, going 4-0-5. Darren Turcotte led all NHL skaters in overtime goals scored with 2. Northeast Division (NHL)
The National Hockey League's Northeast Division was formed in 1993 as part of the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference in a league realignment. Its predecessor was the Adams Division. The Northeast Division lasted for 19 seasons (not including the cancelled 2004–05 NHL season, 2004–05 season) until the 2013 league realignment, when all five of its teams were placed into the new Atlantic Division (NHL), Atlantic Division. Although none of its members won the Stanley Cup following the realignment until the Boston Bruins' title in 2011, its members accounted for a combined 43 Stanley Cup championships (24 by Montreal, 13 by Toronto and 6 by Boston), which was the most championships of any division in the NHL prior to 2013. Sean Burke
Sean Burke (born January 29, 1967) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender and the current director of goaltending for the Vegas Golden Knights, with whom he won the Stanley Cup with in 2023. He played 18 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the New Jersey Devils, Hartford Whalers, Carolina Hurricanes, Vancouver Canucks, Philadelphia Flyers, Florida Panthers, Phoenix Coyotes, Tampa Bay Lightning and Los Angeles Kings between 1988 and 2007. He was born in Windsor, Ontario, but grew up in Toronto, Ontario. Playing career As a youth, Burke played in the 1980 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the St. Michael's minor ice hockey team from Toronto. Jeff O'Neill
Jeffrey O'Neill (born February 23, 1976) is a Canadian broadcaster and former professional ice hockey player in the National Hockey League (NHL). He played 12 seasons with the Hartford Whalers, Carolina Hurricanes and the Toronto Maple Leafs. He has earned accolades for his offensive contributions on the ice and represented Canada internationally in various tournaments. Harvard Crimson Men's Ice Hockey
The Harvard Crimson men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents Harvard University. The Crimson are a member of ECAC Hockey. They play at the Bright Hockey Center in Boston, Massachusetts. The Crimson hockey team is one of the oldest college ice hockey teams in the United States, having played their first game on January 19, 1898, in a 0–6 loss to Brown. Steve Martins
Steve P. Martins (born April 13, 1972) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League (NHL). Biography As a youth, Martins played in the 1986 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a minor ice hockey team from Gatineau, Quebec. He attended Choate Rosemary Hall, and later attended Harvard University, graduating in 1995. Martins was drafted in the 1994 NHL Supplemental Draft by the Hartford Whalers. Martins played professional hockey from 1995 until 2009 primarily in minor leagues. Darren Turcotte
Darren Turcotte (born March 2, 1968) is an American former professional Ice hockey player. Early life Turcotte's family moved to North Bay, Ontario where he spent most of his childhood. After his family returned to northern Ontario, he began playing ice hockey at the age of five. He then played six seasons with the Pinehill Coffee Shop 'AAA' minor hockey team, which at the time was coached by his father Don Turcotte. In 1984, now playing in the midget division, Darren scored 60 goals and in that same year he led the Pinehill Coffee Shop win the NOHA, Ontario, and Canadian Midget hockey titles. After his impressive 60 goal season, Darren was drafted to the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) North Bay Centennials in the third round.
