1993 WAC Men's Basketball Tournament
The 1993 Western Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament was held March 10–13 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. This was the first WAC tournament not held on a campus arena. New Mexico defeated in the championship game, 76–65, to clinch their first WAC men's tournament championship. The Lobos, in turn, received an automatic bid to the 1993 NCAA tournament. They were joined in the tournament by the conference's regular season co-champions, Utah and BYU, who received at-large bids to the tournament. Format With the addition of Fresno State to the WAC in 1993, the conference's total membership expanded to ten teams. In turn, the tournament field expanded to once again feature all WAC members. The top six teams received byes into the quarterfinal round, leaving the lowest four-seeded teams to play in the first round. Vivint Arena (stylized as vivint arena), formerly known as Delta Center, EnergySolutions Arena and Vivint Smart Home Arena, is an indoor arena located in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dave Bliss
David Gregory Bliss (born September 20, 1943) is an American basketball coach. He served as the head men's basketball coach at University of Oklahoma, Southern Methodist University, the University of New Mexico, Baylor University, and Southwestern Christian University, an NAIA school in Bethany, Oklahoma. Bliss resigned from Baylor in 2003 following internal and NCAA investigations into a number of circumstances surrounding the murder of Baylor player Patrick Dennehy by teammate Carlton Dotson. These included the alleged involvement of Bliss in making illicit tuition payments for players Dennehy and Corey Herring, and his attempt to frame Dennehy posthumously as a drug dealer in order to provide cover for himself; in 2005, the NCAA issued Bliss a 10-year "show-cause" notice. The 1992–93 Utah Utes men's basketball team represented the University of Utah as a member of the Western Athletic Conference during the 1992–93 men's basketball season. Led by head coach Rick Majerus, the Utes won the WAC regular season title and received a bid to the NCAA tournament. Participating in the Southeast regional, Utah defeated Pittsburgh in the opening round before falling to No. 1 seed Kentucky in the second round.
