1993 Northeast Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The 1993 Northeast Conference men's basketball tournament was played from March 2–5, 1993 at campus sites of the higher seeded teams. The tournament featured the league's ten teams, seeded based on their conference record. Rider won their first ever championship with a thrilling last second shot by Darrick Suber, defeating Wagner 65–64, and received the conference's automatic bid to the 1993 NCAA Tournament. Format The NEC Men's Basketball Tournament consisted of a ten-team playoff format with all games played at the venue of the higher seed. Alumni Gymnasium (Rider University)
Alumni Gymnasium is a 1,650-seat multi-purpose arena in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. It is home to the Rider University Broncs basketball, volleyball and wrestling teams. It was one of the first buildings built on the Lawrenceville campus upon moving from downtown Trenton. Its first event was the school's 1958 commencement; the first Broncs basketball game was the home opener against Seton Hall. The Northeast Conference men's basketball championship games were held there from 1993 to 1995. 1992–93 Rider Broncs Men's Basketball Team
The 1992–93 Rider Broncs men's basketball team represented Rider University in the 1992–93 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Broncs, led by head coach Kevin Bannon, played their home games at the Alumni Gymnasium in Lawrenceville, New Jersey as members of the Northeast Conference. They finished the season 19–11, 14–4 in NEC play to finish atop the conference standings. In the NEC tournament, they defeated No. 9 seed , No. 5 seed , and No. 2 seed to win the tournament and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. As the No. 16 seed in the Southeast region of the 1993 NCAA tournament, the Broncs were defeated by No. 1 seed and eventual Final Four participant Kentucky, 96–52, in the opening round. Kevin Bannon
Kevin Bannon (born June 11, 1957) is a former American men's college basketball head coach who most recently served as head coach at Rutgers University from 1997 through 2001. Prior to that he spent eight years as head coach of Rider University's team and seven more as the coach of Trenton State College. Darrick Suber
Darrick Suber (born ) is an American former basketball player. He had a standout college career at Rider University in which he was the 1993 Northeast Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year, Northeast Conference Player of the Year. He was the first 2,000-point scorer in Rider history, and his game-winning shot in the 1993 Northeast Conference men's basketball tournament championship propelled the Broncs to their second-ever NCAA Tournament. Northeast Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The Northeast Conference men's basketball tournament is the conference championship tournament in basketball for the Northeast Conference (NEC). It has been held every year since the NEC was established in the 1981–82 season. The tournament is an eight-team single-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season records. The bracket is reseeded after the quarterfinals, with the highest remaining seed playing the lowest remaining seed in the semifinals. The tournament winner receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship, NCAA basketball tournament.
