1992–93 Sheffield United F.C. Season
During the 1992–93 English football season, Sheffield United competed in the inaugural season of the FA Premier League under manager Dave Bassett. Season summary Highlights of the season included a 6–0 home win over Tottenham Hotspur and an opening-day 2–1 win over eventual champions Manchester United. The club also reached the FA Cup semi-final, but were beaten by arch-rivals Sheffield Wednesday. In the victory over Man Utd Brian Deane scored the first ever Premier League goal. At the end of the season, the newly formed League Managers Association presented its "Manager of the Year" award for the first time, specifically designed to recognise "the manager who made best use of the resources available to him". Dane Lee Whitehouse (born 14 October 1970) is an English former footballer who played in the Football League for Sheffield United. Whitehouse was an accomplished left winger, who was equally comfortable filling in at left back. He served his only club, Sheffield United, for 13 years between 1987 and 2000, making 278 appearances and scoring 51 goals in all competitions. Club career Whitehouse signed professionally for Sheffield United in July 1987 and made his first team debut against Blackpool in 1988, aged just 18. He made a good early impression, but was in and out of the team for most of his early professional career. Adrian Sylvester Littlejohn (born 26 September 1970) is an English former footballer who played as a midfielder and a striker. He scored 74 goals in 425 league appearances in an 18-year career in the English Football League. He began his professional career at Walsall after moving from West Bromwich Albion in 1989. He moved on to Sheffield United two years later before making a £100,000 move to Plymouth Argyle in September 1995. Glyn Peter Hodges (born 30 April 1963) is a Welsh football coach and former professional player. During his playing career he played for Wimbledon, Newcastle United, Watford, Crystal Palace, Sheffield United, Derby County, Hull City, Nottingham Forest and Scarborough. Paul Beesley (born 21 July 1965) is an English former footballer who played primarily as a centre back. He began his career at Wigan Athletic in September 1984, before he was sold on to Leyton Orient for £175,000 in October 1989. He joined Sheffield United for £300,000 in July 1990 and was voted Player of the Year at the Premier League club in 1993. He was sold to Leeds United in August 1995 for a £250,000 fee before moving on to Manchester City in February 1997 for £500,000. Alan Graham Cork (born 4 March 1959) is an English former professional footballer. He played as a striker for several clubs, most notably Wimbledon (where he spent 14 years, played in all four divisions of the Football League and gained an FA Cup-winner's medal in 1988) and has held a number of managerial and coaching posts since his retirement from playing.
