1992–93 Denver Nuggets Season
The 1992–93 NBA season was the 17th season for the Denver Nuggets in the National Basketball Association, and their 26th season as a franchise. The Nuggets received the fifth overall pick in the 1992 NBA draft, and selected power forward LaPhonso Ellis out of Notre Dame University, and also selected shooting guard Bryant Stith from the University of Virginia with the thirteenth overall pick. During the off-season, the team acquired second-year guard Robert Pack from the Portland Trail Blazers, and brought back Dan Issel as their new head coach; Issel starred for the Nuggets for ten seasons as a player. Under Issel, the Nuggets got off to a 7–7 start to the regular season, but then suffered a 14-game losing streak from December 5, 1992 to January 5, 1993. Dan Issel
Daniel Paul Issel (born October 25, 1948) is an American former professional basketball player and coach. He played college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats, earning All-American twice en route to a school-record 25.7 points per game for his career. The American Basketball Association Rookie of the Year in 1971, he was a six-time ABA All-Star and a one-time NBA All-Star. A prolific scorer, Issel remains the all-time leading scorer at the University of Kentucky, the second-leading scorer of all time for the NBA's Denver Nuggets, and the second-leading scorer of all time for the American Basketball Association itself. Upon Issel's retirement from the NBA in 1985, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Julius Erving were the only professional basketball players to have scored more career points. 1992–93 Charlotte Hornets Season
The 1992–93 NBA season was the fifth season for the Charlotte Hornets in the National Basketball Association. The Hornets received the second overall pick in the 1992 NBA draft, and selected center Alonzo Mourning out of Georgetown University. The team also signed free agent David Wingate during the first month of the regular season, then later on traded J.R. Reid to the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for Sidney Green in December, and released Tom Hammonds to free agency as he later on signed with the Denver Nuggets. With the addition of Mourning, along with second-year star Larry Johnson and Muggsy Bogues, the Hornets struggled losing four of their first six games of the regular season, but then went on a five-game winning streak afterwards, and held a 26–23 record at the All-Star break. Anthony Cook (basketball)
Anthony Lacquise Cook (born March 19, 1967) is an American former professional basketball player. After having played collegiately at the University of Arizona, power forward– center Cook was selected by the Phoenix Suns in the first round (24th overall pick) of the 1989 NBA draft, and then traded on draft day to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Micheal Williams and the Pistons' first round draft choice (27th overall pick), Kenny Battle. Cook chose not to join the Pistons, electing to play in Greece instead for P.A.O.K. B.C. He returned to the United States after one season and played in four NBA seasons for the Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, Milwaukee Bucks and Portland Trail Blazers, in a career marred by numerous injuries. Todd Lichti
Todd Samuel Lichti (born January 8, 1967) is an American former professional basketball player. At and he played at guard (basketball), guard. He was selected with 15th pick in the 1989 NBA draft by the Denver Nuggets where he stayed for 4 years. He also had short stints with Orlando Magic, Golden State Warriors, and Boston Celtics before moving to Australia to play for the Perth Wildcats. Marcus Liberty (born October 27, 1968) is an American former professional basketball player. He played four seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Liberty played college basketball for the University of Illinois. High school After leading Chicago's Crane High School Cougars to a city title as a freshman, Liberty transferred to Chicago's King College Prep High School for his sophomore through senior seasons from 1984 to 1987. Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo (June 25, 1966 – September 30, 2024) was a Congolese-American professional basketball player. He played 18 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). NBA All-Rookie Team
The NBA All-Rookie Team is an annual National Basketball Association (NBA) honor given since the 1962–63 NBA season to the top rookies during the regular season. Voting is conducted by the NBA head coaches who are not allowed to vote for players on their own team. The NBA's Most Improved Player (MIP) is an annual National Basketball Association (NBA) award given to the player who has shown the most progress during the regular season compared to previous seasons.
