1992 North Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The 1992 North Atlantic Conference men's basketball tournament was hosted by the higher seeds in head-to-head matchups. The final was held at Delaware Field House on the campus of the University of Delaware. Delaware gained its first overall America East Conference Championship and an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament with its win over Drexel. Delaware was given the 13th seed in the Midwest Regional of the NCAA Tournament and lost in the first round to Cincinnati 85–47. Delaware Field House
The Delaware Field House is an indoor athletics facility on the campus of the University of Delaware in Newark, Delaware. Constructed in 1966, the venue seated 4,000 fans for indoor track and tennis events. It served as the site of intercollegiate basketball games as well until the completion of the Bob Carpenter Center in mid-1992. The Field House is part of a complex which includes the new arena, Delaware Stadium (football), Rullo Stadium (field hockey/lacrosse), Bob Hannah Stadium (baseball), an outdoor swimming pool, and six tennis courts. The 1991–92 Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens men's basketball team represented the University of Delaware during the 1991–92 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Fightin' Blue Hens, led by seventh-year head coach Steve Steinwedel, played their home games at the Delaware Field House and were members of the North Atlantic Conference. Steve Steinwedel
Steve Steinwedel (born July 18, 1953) is an American former college basketball coach who most notably coached for ten seasons at Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens men's basketball, Delaware. Coaching career After a player career at Mississippi State Bulldogs men's basketball, Mississippi State, Steinwedel began his coaching career as an assistant at Stetson Hatters men's basketball, Stetson, before moving on to assistant coaching spots at West Virginia Mountaineers men's basketball, West Virginia, Duke Blue Devils men's basketball, Duke, and South Carolina Gamecocks men's basketball, South Carolina. He was named the head coach at Delaware in 1985. 1992 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament
The 1992 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 64 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball. It began on March 19, 1992, and ended with the championship game on April 6 in Minneapolis. A total of 63 games were played. Duke, coached by Mike Krzyzewski, defeated Michigan, coached by Steve Fisher, 71–51 to claim their second consecutive national championship. Bobby Hurley of Duke was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. Michigan subsequently vacated its final two tournament games due to issues with the eligibility of Chris Webber found in the University of Michigan basketball scandal. The Cincinnati Bearcats are the college sports, athletic teams that represent the University of Cincinnati. The Northeastern Huskies are the athletic teams representing Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts.
