1991–92 Southwest Missouri State Lady Bears Basketball Team
The 1991–92 Southwest Missouri State Lady Bears basketball team represented Southwest Missouri State University during the 1991–92 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Lady Bears, led by fifth-year head coach Cheryl Burnett, played their home games at Hammons Student Center and were members of the Gateway Collegiate Athletic Conference. They finished the season 31–3 and 17–1 in conference play to win the regular season title. As the top seed in the conference tournament, they defeated Bradley in the semifinals of Southern Illinois in the championship game. They received an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament and, despite being the No. 10 ranked team in the country, were assigned the No. 8 seed in the Midwest region. They defeated No. 9 seed Kansas, No. 1 seed Iowa, No. 5 seed UCLA, and No. 2 seed Ole Miss to reach the first Final Four in program history. Cheryl Burnett
Cheryl Elaine Burnett (born June 13, 1958) is an American former women's college basketball coach and player. She was the head coach of the Southwest Missouri State women's basketball team from 1987 to 2002. At Southwest Missouri State, she compiled a 319–136 record () and led her teams to the Final Four of the NCAA tournament in 1992 and 2001. She also served as the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines women's basketball team from 2003 to 2007, compiling a record of 35–83 (). She played college basketball at the University of Kansas from 1976 to 1980. Playing career Burnett is a native of Centralia, Missouri. Missouri State Lady Bears
The Missouri State Bears and Lady Bears are the athletic teams representing Missouri State University (formerly Southwest Missouri State University). Missouri State's athletics programs date back to 1908. Missouri State competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision, but started a transition to the Football Bowl Subdivision on July 1, 2024. The majority of sports play in the Division I Missouri Valley Conference. Aurora is a city in Lawrence County, Missouri, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 7,217. History The Honey Creek area, near Aurora, was originally settled by pioneers from Tennessee, including James D. Hillhouse, E. B. Hillhouse, Reverend A. A. Young, James Barrow and James Gibson. History In 1864, General Alfred Pleasonton defeated the Confederates in the Battle of Mine Creek near present-day Pleasanton. This battle, involving 25,000 men, resulted in a Union victory which ended the threat of Confederate invasion in Kansas. Joplin High School
Joplin High School is a public high school located in Joplin, Missouri, United States, founded in 1885. The school serves students in grades 9 through 12 and is the only traditional high school in the Joplin School District. History In 1885, Joplin High School began operation. The original site was expanded in 1892 to accommodate more students, and in 1897, students moved to a new site due to continued growth. In 1911, the students built a biplane and on October 11, 1911 Harold Robinson piloted the plane and it crashed, killing a bystander, James Kinney.
