National Stadium (Tokyo, 1958)
was a multi-purpose stadium in Kasumigaoka, Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. The stadium served as the main stadium for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as being the venue for track and field events at the 1964 Summer Olympics. The Japan national football team's home matches and major football club cup finals were held at the stadium. The stadium's official capacity was 57,363, but the seating capacity was only 48,000 seats. Demolition was completed in May 2015, and the site was redeveloped with a new larger-capacity Olympic Stadium. The new stadium was the main venue for the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. The original plans for the new stadium were scrapped in July 2015 by Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe, who announced a rebid after a public outcry because of increased building costs. Floyd Heard
Floyd Wayne Heard (born March 24, 1966, in West Point, Mississippi) is a retired track and field sprinter from the United States, best known for setting the 1986 world's best year performance in the men's 200 m. He did so on 7 July 1986 at a meet in Moscow, Soviet Union, clocking 20.12s. A year later he won the title in the men's 200 m at the 1987 Pan American Games. Heard's personal best for the 200 m was 19.88 seconds, set at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Sacramento on 23 July 2000. That was the race where favorites Michael Johnson and Maurice Greene were pitted as rivals by the media. Aleksandr Sokolov (sprinter)
Aleksandr Borisovich Goremykin (; born 3 March 1971), also known as Aleksandr Sokolov (), is a Soviet-Russian former track and field sprinter who specialized in the 200 metres. He competed at two editions of the World Championships in Athletics: first for the Soviet Union in 1991, where he placed eighth in the 200 m final and seventh in the 4 × 100 metres relay with the Soviet team, then at the 1995 World Championships in Athletics for Russia, where he ran in qualifying only individually and in the relay. He set his 200 m personal best at the 1991 championships, running 20.36 seconds in the quarter-finals. Goremykin won three senior international medals. Nikolay Antonov
Nikolay Antonov (, born 17 August 1968 in Razgrad) is a retired Bulgarian athlete. He started as a 200 metres sprinter, and won the 1991 World Indoor Championships and 1992 European Athletics Indoor Championships. In 1993 he switched to long jump. His personal best time was 20.20 seconds, achieved at the 1991 World Championships earned him the title "the fastest white man on the planet". It is also the Bulgarian record. Antonov defeated Carl Lewis in the 200 metres in March 1992 at an indoor meet in San Sebastian, Spain. He was timed in 20.51, Lewis in 20.75. His personal best long jump was 8.21 metres, achieved in July 1994 in Plovdiv. Olapade Charles Adeniken (born 19 August 1969 in Osogbo) is a retired Nigerian sprinter who specialized in the 100 and 200 metres, and is the father of Michael Adeniken. Robson Caetano da Silva (born September 4, 1964 in Rio de Janeiro) is a Brazilian sprinter. He participated in four consecutive Olympic Summer Games (1984, 1988, 1992, 1996) and won the bronze medal over 200 metres in the 1988 Seoul Olympics as well as in the 4×100 m relay in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Da Silva won three victories at World Cup competitions (1985, 1989, and 1992) over 200 m. He set two South American records over 100 metres and five over 200 m.
