Health And Physical Education Arena
Health and Physical Education Arena (H&PE Arena) is an 8,100-seat multi-purpose arena in Houston, Texas on the campus of Texas Southern University. It was designed by Houston architect Willie C. Jordan Jr. and built in 1989 and is home to the Texas Southern University Tigers basketball and volleyball teams. The arena played host to Houston Cougars men's basketball games during the 2017–18 season, as well as all Houston Cougars women's basketball home games in the same season, due to renovations of their arena, and hosted both teams for the first month of the 2018–19 season due to construction delays to the Cougars' home arena. 1990–91 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Men's Basketball Team
The 1990–91 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers men's basketball team represented Coastal Carolina University during the 1990–91 college basketball season. This was head coach Russ Bergman's third season at Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers competed in the Big South Conference and played their home games at Kimbel Arena. They finished the season 24–8, 13–1 in Big South play to capture the regular season championship. The Chanticleers won the 1991 Big South Conference men's basketball tournament to advance to face Jackson State in a play-in game for the right to advance to the NCAA tournament. Coastal Carolina defeated Jackson state to earn an automatic bid to the 1991 NCAA tournament as No. 15 seed in the Southeast Region, marking the school's first ever appearance in the NCAA tournament. 1991 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament
The 1991 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 64 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball. It began on March 14, 1991, and ended with the championship game on April 1 in Indianapolis, Indiana. A total of 63 games were played. Duke, coached by Mike Krzyzewski, won a rematch of the previous year's national final matchup against undefeated UNLV 79–77 in the semifinal, then won the national title with a 72–65 victory in the final game over Kansas, coached by Roy Williams. This was the first national championship game for Williams as a head coach. Kansas defeated Williams' mentor Dean Smith and North Carolina (where Williams later coached) in the semifinal. Kansas made its second trip to the national championship game in four seasons, the prior appearance being 1988 when they defeated Oklahoma.
