1991 MAAC Men's Basketball Tournament
The 1991 MAAC men's basketball tournament was held March 1–4 at Knickerbocker Arena in Albany, New York. Number three seed Saint Peter's defeated in the championship game, 64–58, to win their first MAAC men's basketball tournament. The Peacocks received an automatic bid to the 1991 NCAA tournament as the No. 12 seed in the Midwest region. Format All nine of the conference's members participated in the tournament field. Knickerbocker Arena
MVP Arena (originally Knickerbocker Arena, and then the Pepsi Arena and Times Union Center) is an indoor arena located in Albany, New York. 1990–91 Saint Peter's Peacocks Men's Basketball Team
The 1990–91 Saint Peter's Peacocks men's basketball team represented Saint Peter's College during the 1990–91 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Peacocks, led by fifth-year head coach Ted Fiore, played their home games at the Yanitelli Center and were members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. They finished the season 24–7, 11–5 in MAAC play to finish in third place. They defeated Niagara, La Salle, and Iona to win the MAAC tournament. MAAC Men's Basketball Tournament
The MAAC men's basketball tournament (popularly known as the MAAC Tournament) is the conference championship tournament in basketball for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The tournament has been held every year since 1982, the MAAC's first season. It is a single-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season records. The winner, declared conference champion, receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA men's basketball tournament. The MAAC did not receive its automatic bid from the NCAA until 1984. The tournament has used several formats in its history, though seeding in all formats has been based strictly on conference record (with tiebreakers used as needed). When the tournament began in 1982, the conference had six members: Army, Fairfield, Fordham, Iona, Manhattan, and Saint Peter's. 1991 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament
The 1991 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 64 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball. It began on March 14, 1991, and ended with the championship game on April 1 in Indianapolis, Indiana. A total of 63 games were played. Duke, coached by Mike Krzyzewski, won a rematch of the previous year's national final matchup against undefeated UNLV 79–77 in the semifinal, then won the national title with a 72–65 victory in the final game over Kansas, coached by Roy Williams. This was the first national championship game for Williams as a head coach. Kansas defeated Williams' mentor Dean Smith and North Carolina (where Williams later coached) in the semifinal.
