1990–91 Real Madrid CF Season
The 1990–91 season was Real Madrid Club de Fútbol's 89th season in existence and the club's 60th consecutive season in the top flight of Spanish football. Summary In the summertime, Welsh head coach John Toshack asked for several changes, including the transfers of Bernd Schuster to local rivals Atlético Madrid and defender Oscar Ruggeri, together with midfielder Martín Vázquez, to Torino FC. Meanwhile, President Ramon Mendoza, after a failed bid for Liverpool's John Barnes, reinforced the club with Gheorghe Hagi, Predrag Spasić (after Gheorghe Popescu rejected an offer from Mendoza) and Villaroya. Gheorghe "Gică" Popescu (; born 9 October 1967) is a Romanian former professional football player who played as a defender. He notably played in La Liga, where he was a former captain of FC Barcelona. He played for a string of European clubs in that period, including a four-year stint at PSV Eindhoven and winning the UEFA Cup with Galatasaray. He also played in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur, in Serie A with Lecce and in the Bundesliga with Hannover 96. Predrag Spasić ( sr-cyr, Предраг Спасић; born 13 May 1965) is a Serbian former footballer who played as a central defender. Club career Spasić was born in Kragujevac, PR Serbia, Yugoslavia. Over the course of his career he played for FK Radnički Kragujevac, FK Partizan, Real Madrid, CA Osasuna, CA Marbella, FK Radnički Beograd and again FK Radnički Kragujevac, retiring at the age of 32. Gheorghe Hagi (; born 5 February 1965) is a Romanian professional football manager and former player, who is currently the owner of Liga I club Farul Constanța. John Barnes
John Charles Bryan Barnes (born 7 November 1963) is a former professional football player and manager. Oscar Alfredo Ruggeri (born 26 January 1962) is an Argentine former professional association football, footballer who played as centre-back.
