1989 Wimbledon Championships – Men's Singles
Boris Becker defeated defending champion Stefan Edberg in a rematch of the previous year's final, 6–0, 7–6(7–1), 6–4 to win the gentlemen's singles tennis title at the 1989 Wimbledon Championships. It was his third Wimbledon title and third major title overall. The semifinal match between Ivan Lendl and Becker was (at the time) the longest-ever Wimbledon semifinal, at four hours and one minute long. It was later surpassed by the 2013 encounter between Novak Djokovic and Juan Martín del Potro, which would last four hours and forty-three minutes. John McEnroe reached the semifinals, his best showing at a major since reaching the 1985 US Open final. Boris Franz Becker (; born 22 November 1967) is a German former professional tennis player. He was ranked as the List of ATP number 1 ranked players, world No. 1 in men's singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). Kevin Curren
Kevin Melvyn Curren (born 2 March 1958) is a South African former professional tennis player. He played in two Grand Slam singles finals and won four Grand Slam doubles titles, reaching a career-high singles ranking of world No. 5 in July 1985. During his career he won 5 singles and 16 doubles titles. Personal life Curren was born in South Africa, and he became a naturalized American citizen in April 1985. Amos Mansdorf (; born 20 October 1965) is an Israeli former professional tennis player. His career-high singles ranking was World No. 18 (achieved in November 1987), the highest ever for any male Israeli tennis player. His career-high doubles ranking was World No. 67 (May 1986).
