1988–89 Real Madrid CF Season
The 1988–89 season was Real Madrid Club de Fútbol's 87th season in existence and the club's 58th consecutive season in the top flight of Spanish football. As of the 2024–25 season, this was the most recent in which the club won a domestic double of La Liga and Copa del Rey. Season Real Madrid finished the season as champions for the fourth consecutive season, 5 points ahead of the runners-up this time being FC Barcelona. Real Madrid defeated RCD Espanyol 3–0 on 10 June, becoming champions with two rounds remaining in the season. This was its 24th title in history. Real Madrid also won the Copa del Rey and Supercopa, the first time the club accomplished a domestic treble. Leo Beenhakker
Leo Beenhakker (; 2 August 1942 – 10 April 2025) was a Dutch football player and coach. Nicknamed "Don Leo" for his role in Spanish football, he had an extensive and successful career both at club and international level. After his amateur playing career ended at 19 through injury, he began his coaching career. He won the Eredivisie title twice with Ajax and once with Feyenoord, becoming the only person to do so with both rival teams. In Spain he won three consecutive La Liga titles with Real Madrid in the late 1980s, including one as a double with the Copa del Rey. Additionally, he had brief spells in the top divisions of Switzerland, Mexico and Turkey. At international level, he led the Netherlands at the 1990 FIFA World Cup, Trinidad and Tobago to the 2006 FIFA World Cup and Poland to UEFA Euro 2008, the latter two being firsts for both nations. Rafael Martín Vázquez (born 25 September 1965) is a Spanish former professional footballer who played mostly as an attacking midfielder. Adolfo Aldana Torres (born 5 January 1966) is a Spanish former professional footballer who played as a right midfielder. Over 11 seasons, he amassed La Liga totals of 179 matches and 31 goals, mainly with Real Madrid and Deportivo with which he won a total of nine major titles. José Antonio Camacho
José Antonio Camacho Alfaro (; born 8 June 1955) is a Spanish former football left-back and a former manager. He spent 15 professional years at Real Madrid, appearing in more than 500 official matches with the team and helping win 19 major titles, including nine La Liga championships. Subsequently, he embarked in a lengthy manager career, which included two very brief spells with his main club. Esteban Gutiérrez Fernández (born 20 October 1960), known as simply Esteban, is a Spanish former footballer who played as a defender. He played 310 La Liga games for Sporting Gijón, Real Madrid and Real Zaragoza. He won the league twice with Real Madrid, and the Copa del Rey once each for them and for Zaragoza. Julio Llorente Gento (born 14 June 1966) is a Spanish former professional footballer who played mainly as a right-back. Club career Born in Valladolid, Castile and León, Llorente finished his development with La Liga giants Real Madrid, making his debut in the competition in the 1987–88 season with fellow top-division club RCD Mallorca, on loan.
