1988–89 Quebec Nordiques Season
The 1988–89 Quebec Nordiques season saw the team finish in fifth place in the Adams Division with a record of 27 wins, 46 losses, and 7 ties for 61 points. Off-season Quebec announced that interim head coach Ron Lapointe would come back on a permanent basis as head coach of the team. Lapointe had a 22-30-4 record with the Nordiques in 1987–88 Quebec Nordiques season, 1987–88. At the 1988 NHL entry draft, Quebec had two picks in the first round, the third overall pick, and the fifth overall pick. 1987–88 QMJHL Season
The 1987–88 QMJHL season was the 19th season in the history of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Ten teams played 70 games each in the schedule. Patrice Lefebvre of the Shawinigan Cataractes becomes the last player in Canadian Hockey League history to record a 200-point season. Jason Lafreniere
Jason Lafrenière (born December 6, 1966) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played 146 games in the National Hockey League. He played with the Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Rangers, and Quebec Nordiques between 1986 and 1994. Prior to turning professional Lafreniere played major junior in the Ontario Hockey League, where he was named to the First All-Star Team in the 1985–86 season after recording 132 points in 62 games. Normand Rochefort
Normand Rochefort (born January 28, 1961) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. Biography Rochefort was born in Trois-Rivières, Quebec. As a youth, he played in the 1974 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a minor ice hockey team from Trois-Rivières. He played eight seasons with the Quebec Nordiques who had selected him 24th overall in the second round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. He was reunited with head coach Michel Bergeron after being traded along with Jason Lafreniere from the Nordiques to the New York Rangers for Walt Poddubny, Jari Grönstrand, Bruce Bell and a fourth-round selection in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft (76th overall– Éric Dubois) on August 1, 1988. Greg “Bird Dog” Smyth (April 23, 1966 – February 16, 2018) was a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman who played ten seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). Playing career Smyth was born in Oakville, Ontario. As a youth, he played in the 1979 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a minor ice hockey team from Mississauga. Terry Kenneth Carkner (born March 7, 1966) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played 13 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the New York Rangers, Quebec Nordiques, Philadelphia Flyers, Detroit Red Wings and Florida Panthers. He was selected fourteenth overall in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft. Carkner was born in Smiths Falls, Ontario, but grew up in Winchester, Ontario. Carkner was a fearless, tough defensive defenseman. The 1987–88 NHL season was the 71st season of the National Hockey League. It was an 80-game season with the top four teams in each division advancing to the Stanley Cup playoffs. Michael Bryant Eagles (born March 7, 1963) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward who played sixteen seasons in the National Hockey League. He is currently the Athletic Director of St. Thomas University in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Pre-NHL Eagles won two Ontario Hockey League championships (1981 and 1982) and the Memorial Cup (1982) with the Kitchener Rangers.
