During the 1988–89 English football season, Millwall F.C., Millwall Football Club competed in the Football League First Division. This was Millwall's 62nd season in the Football League, and first ever season in the top tier of English football, after achieving promotion from the Second Division as Champions in 1987–88 Football League, 1987–88. Season summary Millwall had won promotion to the First Division for the first time in their history as Second Division champions at the end of the 1987–88 season, and were among the pre-season favourites for relegation, but defied the odds and were top of the First Division by the beginning of October, having won four of their first six league games. Millwall F
Millwall is a district on the western and southern side of the Isle of Dogs, in east London, England, in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It lies to the immediate south of Canary Wharf and Poplar, north of Greenwich and Deptford, east of Rotherhithe, west of Cubitt Town, and has a long shoreline along London's Tideway, part of the River Thames. Danis Salman
Danis Mahmut Mehmet Salman (; born 12 March 1960), sometimes known as Danny Salman, is an English former professional football player and coach, best remembered for his time as a defender in the Football League with Brentford. He made over 380 appearances for the Bees, is the club's youngest-ever league debutant and was inducted into the club's Hall of Fame. He also played for Millwall, Plymouth Argyle and Torquay United. Steve Wood (footballer, Born February 1963)
Steve Wood (born 2 February 1963) is an English former football defender. Wood started his career as an apprentice at Arsenal but was then snapped up by Reading for whom he had eight successful years gaining promotion to the Second Division. He then moved to Millwall for £85,000, and finally onto Southampton for £400,000. He had a brief spells at Oxford United and Woking in the latter part of his career then retired. He now runs his own football representation company, Midas Sports. Neil Ruddock
Neil "Razor" Ruddock (born 9 May 1968) is an English former professional footballer and television personality who is a club director at Enfield. As a player he was a central defender from 1986 to 2003, and was voted the 17th "hardest footballer of all time". He made his debut at Millwall, having been associated with the club since the age of 13, and also represented Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton, Liverpool, West Ham United, Crystal Palace, Queens Park Rangers and Swindon Town during a professional career spanning 17 years. Keith Stevens
Keith Henry Stevens (born 21 June 1964) is an English former professional footballer who played as a defender, spending his entire career with Millwall. Career Stevens made his debut with Millwall in a Third Division fixture against Oxford United in April 1981, when still only 16 years old. Stevens was nicknamed "Rhino" by his teammates, although it is unclear if this was due to his fearless tackling style or the size of his nose. He gained a regular first team place two seasons later and helped Millwall reach the Second Division in 1985 and the First Division (for the first time) in 1988. Alan McLeary
Alan McLeary (born 6 October 1964) is an English football former Defender (association football), defender. He spent the majority of his career at Millwall F.C., Millwall, but also had spells at Charlton Athletic F.C., Charlton Athletic and Bristol City F.C., Bristol City, as well as loan spells at Sheffield United F.C., Sheffield United and Wimbledon F.C., Wimbledon. In 1998, McLeary was appointed assistant manager at Millwall, and in May 1999, he was promoted to co-manager alongside longtime teammate Keith Stevens. The duo were sacked in September 2000. Brian Simon Horne (born 5 October 1967) is an English former footballer who played professionally as a goalkeeper for Millwall, Middlesbrough, Stoke City, Portsmouth and Hartlepool United. Career Horne was born in Billericay and began his career with Millwall making 38 appearances in his debut season of 1986–87.
