The 1988–89 season was Manchester United F.C., Manchester United's 87th season in the English Football League, Football League, and their 14th consecutive season in the top division of Football in England, English football. Giuliano Maiorana (born 18 April 1969), commonly known as Jules Maiorana, is a former professional footballer who played as a left winger. Born in England to Italian parents, Maiorana was spotted and signed by Manchester United while he was playing for Histon in the semi-professional Eastern Counties Football League. Anthony Dean Gill (born 6 March 1968) is an English former professional footballer who spent his entire, short-lived professional career with Manchester United. Born in Bradford, Yorkshire, Gill joined Manchester United as an apprentice in June 1984, and turned professional on his 18th birthday in March 1986. His first team debut for the club came 10 months later, when he stood in for Bryan Robson in a 1–1 draw away to Southampton on 3 January 1987. Deiniol William Thomas Graham (born 4 October 1969) is a football manager and former player. He played as a forward for various clubs in the Football League after playing in the Manchester United youth and reserve teams. Playing career Born in Cannock, Staffordshire, Graham grew up in Caergeiliog, Anglesey. He signed for Manchester United as an apprentice in October 1985 and left school in the summer of 1986. Russell Peter Beardsmore (born 28 September 1968) is an English former footballer. Playing career Beardsmore began his senior career with Manchester United, after playing for Atherton Collieries as a schoolboy. He made his debut in September 1988 against West Ham United and was one of the first wave of 'Fergie's Fledglings'. Mark Gordon Robins (born 22 December 1969) is an English football manager and former player who is the manager of club Stoke City. As a player, he was a striker and is best known for his time in the Premier League with Manchester United, Norwich City and Leicester City. Robins began his career with Manchester United. During this period, he scored a goal against Nottingham Forest in a 1989–90 FA Cup tie that has subsequently been credited with "saving" manager Alex Ferguson's job at Old Trafford. Lee Andrew Martin (born 5 February 1968) is an English former football left back. He played with Manchester United, Celtic and Bristol Rovers, among others. He represented his country at under 21 level. Playing career Martin started his career in the Manchester United youth system. In 1990, he scored the only goal in the FA Cup final replay against Crystal Palace. This was one of just two goals Martin scored in his entire United career. Lee Stuart Sharpe (born 27 May 1971) is an English former professional footballer, sports television pundit, reality television personality and golfer.
