PAOK FC (, ), short for "Pan-Thessalonian Sports club, Athletic Club of Constantinople, Constantinopolitans" (), and commonly known as PAOK Thessaloniki, PAOK Salonika or simply PAOK, is a Greek professional Association football, football club based in Thessaloniki, Macedonia (Greece), Macedonia, Greece. PAOK are one of the top domestic clubs, the most widely supported in Northern Greece. Established on 20 April 1926 by Greek refugees who fled to Thessaloniki from Istanbul, Constantinople in the wake of the Greco-Turkish War (1919–1922), they play their home games at Toumba Stadium, a 29,000 seating capacity football ground. Their name, along with the club's emblem, the Roman Empire, Byzantine-style double-headed eagle with retracted wings, honours the memory of the people and places (mostly from the city of Constantinople) that once belonged to the Eastern Roman Empire. Lakis Papaioannou
Apostolos "Lakis" Papaioannou (Greek: Απόστολος "Λάκης" Παπαϊωάννου; born 5 October 1956) is a retired Greek professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Career Club career Born in Katerini, Papaioannou began playing football with the youth sides of A.O. Katerinis and Pierikos F.C. In 1973, he made his senior debut for Pierikos in the Beta Ethniki. Papaioannou helped Pierikos to gain its promotion to the Alpha Ethniki in 1975, and played for the club until 1979 when it was relegated to the regional leagues. Alpha Ethniki side Iraklis Thessaloniki F.C. signed Papaioannou in 1979, and would play for Iraklis until city rivals PAOK F.C. signed him in 1986. Papaioannou helped PAOK to consecutive second-place finishes in the league, and then joined PAS Giannina F.C. in 1988. His finished his career with Patras F.C., retiring in 1992. Giorgos Skartados
Georgios Skartados (Greek: Γεώργιος Σκαρτάδος; born 7 April 1960) is a Greek former international footballer who played as a midfielder. Career Born in Rhodes, Skartados started his football career at local club Rodos in 1975, aged 15. The next year, he joined the first team and after two seasons in the second division, they managed to get promoted to the top-tier Alpha Ethniki in 1978. In the summer of 1982, he joined PAOK and quickly became a first-team regular at the ''White-blacks of the North''. Although he was initially acquired by PAOK president Giorgos Pantelakis to replace Giannis Gounaris as a right wing-back, Skartados shined as a ''box-to-box midfielder'' who had good all-round abilities, skilled at both defending and attacking.
