Hammer Throw
The hammer throw (HT for short) is one of the four throwing events in regular outdoor track-and-field competitions, along with the discus throw, shot put and Javelin throw, javelin. The hammer used in this sport is not like any of the tools also called by that name. It consists of a metal ball attached by a steel wire to a grip. These three components are each separate and can move independently. Both the size and weight of the ball vary between men's and women's events. The women's hammer weighs for college and professional meets while the men's hammer weighs . Igor Yuriyevich Nikulin (; 14 August 1960 – 7 November 2021) was a hammer thrower who represented the USSR, the Unified Team, and later Russia. He won the bronze medal at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain. Nikulin's U23 world record of 83.54 m, set 2 September 1982 in Athens, put him 2nd in the world of all time behind Sergey Litvinov's 83.98 m. Gary Halpin
Gary Halpin (14 February 1966 – 23 February 2021) was an Irish rugby union international player and champion hammer thrower. He played as a prop for Wanderers F.C., Leinster, London Irish, Harlequins and Ireland. He scored a try against New Zealand at the 1995 Rugby World Cup and subsequently celebrated with an obscene gesture directed at the All Blacks. Early life Halpin was born in Dublin on 14 February 1966. He attended Rockwell College, where he played schools rugby. Judson Campbell Logan (July 19, 1959 – January 3, 2022) was an American athlete. He won a gold medal in the hammer throw at the 1987 Pan American Games in Indianapolis. Logan competed in four Summer Olympics, starting in 1984. His best finish was 13th in the qualifying round in 1984. Biography Logan had bests of 49-11 (SP) and 171-11 (DT) in high school, but did not qualify for the state meet. He is quoted of saying, "And I made it to four Olympics. That's what I tell kids now: never give up on your dreams." He played tight end in high school at Hoover High School, before attending Kent State University and playing football for two and a half seasons.
