1987 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Tournament
The 1987 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Tournament was the 28th organized men's college soccer tournament by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, to determine the top college soccer team in the United States. The Clemson Tigers won their second national title by defeating the San Diego State Aztecs, 2–0, in the championship game. The final match was played on December 6, 1987, in Clemson, South Carolina, at Riggs Field. All the other games were played at the home field of the higher seeded team. The Fresno State Bulldogs are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent California State University, Fresno (commonly referred to as Fresno State). The South Carolina Gamecocks men's soccer team represents the University of South Carolina and, as of the upcoming 2022 college soccer season, competes in the Sun Belt Conference. The Indiana Hoosiers men's soccer team represents Indiana University Bloomington. The team is a member of the Big Ten Conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The Evansville Purple Aces are the intercollegiate sports teams and players of the University of Evansville, located in Evansville, Indiana. The Aces athletic program is a member of the Missouri Valley Conference and competes at the NCAA's Division I level. Penalty Shootout (football)
A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. If scores are level after five pairs of shots, the shootout progresses into additional " sudden-death" rounds. The Saint Louis Billikens men's soccer team is an intercollegiate varsity sports team of Saint Louis University.
