1986–87 Houston Cougars Men's Basketball Team
The 1986–87 Houston Cougars men's basketball team represented the University of Houston as a member of the Southwest Conference during the 1986–87 NCAA men's basketball season. Following the 30-year tenure of legendary coach Guy Lewis, the team was led by first-year head coach Pat Foster and the team played its home games at the Hofheinz Pavilion in Houston, Texas. The Cougars played in the NCAA tournament for the first time in three seasons, and lost in the opening round to Kansas, 66–55. Houston finished with a record of 18–12 (9–7 SWC). Pat Foster
Pat Foster (born June 22, 1939) is an American former college basketball coach. He served as the head men's basketball coach at Lamar University (1980–1986), University of Houston (1986–1993), and the University of Nevada, Reno (1993–1999), compiling a career record of 366–203. Foster also served as athletic director at Lamar from 1983 to 1985. At Houston, he succeeded Guy Lewis. He then left Houston to coach Nevada before retiring. Tudor Fieldhouse
Tudor Fieldhouse is a multi-purpose arena in Houston, Texas. Previously known as Rice Gymnasium, it was renamed in honor of Rice University alum Bobby Tudor, who spearheaded the renovation of the facility with a multimillion-dollar donation. The court is designated "Autry Court" in memory of Mrs. James L. Autry. Her husband James Lockhart Autry was a descendant of Micajah Autry, who was at the Battle of the Alamo. Her daughter, Mrs. Edward W. Kelley, made a generous donation to the gymnasium building fund in honor of her late mother, an ardent supporter of Rice. The arena opened in 1950. It is home to the Rice Owls men's and women's basketball, and volleyball teams. History The facility was constructed in 1950 for the Rice basketball, volleyball and swim teams. 1986–87 Texas Tech Red Raiders Men's Basketball Team
Gerald Myers coached the Texas Tech Red Raiders basketball teams from 1971 to 1991, before stepping down to become the athletic director for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. In Myers' twenty seasons at Texas Tech, he compiled a 326–261 record. Gold Mine (Long Beach)
The Gold Mine is a 1,900-seat multi-purpose arena in Long Beach, California on the campus of California State University, Long Beach. Opened in the late 1950s, it was known as University Gym. The Gold Mine was home to Long Beach State's basketball and volleyball teams until the Walter Pyramid opened in 1994. It used to have nearly 2400 wooden bleacher seats before a mid-80s renovation. Desert Financial Arena (formerly ASU Activity Center and Wells Fargo Arena) is a 14,198-seat multi-purpose arena located at 600 E Veterans Way in Tempe, Arizona, United States, in the Phoenix metropolitan area. It sits immediately east of Mountain America Stadium on the northern edge of the Tempe campus of Arizona State University (ASU).
