Ekstraklasa
(; meaning "Extra Class" in Polish), officially known as PKO Bank Polski Ekstraklasa due to its Sponsor (commercial), sponsorship by PKO Bank Polski, is a professional association football league in Poland and the highest level of the Polish football league system. Contested by 18 clubs, operating a system of promotion and relegation with the I liga, seasons start in July, and end in May or June the following year. Teams play a total of 34 games each. Games are played on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. The winner of the qualifies for the Polish Super Cup. Since 2005, the league is operated by the S.A. (corporation), Spółka Akcyjna. Jan Urban
Jan Urban (; born 14 May 1962) is a Polish professional football manager and former player who played as a striker. He was most recently in charge of Ekstraklasa club Górnik Zabrze. His professional career was closely associated to Górnik Zabrze and Osasuna, and he also coached and worked with the latter club in various capacities. Urban represented Poland at the 1986 World Cup. Playing career Club Urban was born in Jaworzno, being one of six children in an underprivileged mining family. In his country he played for Zagłębie Sosnowiec and Górnik Zabrze, winning three Ekstraklasa championships in a row with the latter to which he contributed with a combined 38 goals, including a career-best 17 in 1987–88. Dariusz Dziekanowski
Dariusz Paweł Dziekanowski (born 30 September 1962) is a Polish football pundit, coach and former player. He was known as Jacki Dziekanowski during his time playing in the Scottish and English leagues. He started his career at Polonia Warsaw, between 1973 and 1979, throughout the youth set-up and into a very young first team, but went to Gwardia Warszawa from 1979 to 1983. Having not impressed the coach during his final season, he moved to Widzew Łódź in 1985. However, the following year he was selected in Poland 's roster for the 1986 FIFA World Cup. He won the Polish Cup in 1989. He also had a minor career in archery, in 1988. He decided to move to Celtic in 1989 and became a fan favourite after scoring four goals in a European Cup Winners' Cup tie against Partizan Belgrade. He left Celtic to join Bristol City in 1992. Jan Furtok
Jan Furtok (9 March 1962 – 26 November 2024) was a Polish professional footballer who played as a striker. Regarded as the greatest player in GKS Katowice's history, he is the club's all-time best goalscorer. Career Born in Katowice, Furtok spent the early and latter parts of his career playing for his hometown club GKS Katowice, with a seven-year stint in (West) German clubs Hamburger SV and Eintracht Frankfurt in-between. With GKS, he won the 1985–86 Polish Cup, the club's first major domestic achievement. He then led the Silesian side to third-place and second-place finishes in the 1986–87 and 1987–88 league campaigns, accordingly. With 122 goals in 299 appearances across all competitions, he is the best goalscorer in GKS Katowice's history. GKS retired the number 9 in honour of Furtok's service to the club. Away Goals Rule
The away goals rule is a method of tiebreaking in association football and other sports when teams play each other twice, once at each team's home ground. Under the away goals rule, if the total goals scored by each team are equal, the team that has scored more goals " away from home" wins the tiebreaker. This is sometimes expressed by saying that away goals "count double" in the event of a tie, though in practice the team with more away goals is simply recorded as the victor, rather than having additional or 'double' goals added to their total. The away goals rule is most often invoked in two-leg fixtures, where the initial result is determined by the aggregate score — i.e. the scores of both games are added together. I liga (, ), currently named Betclic I liga due to its sponsorship by Betclic, is the men's second professional association football division of the Polish football league system, below the Ekstraklasa and above the II liga via promotion/relegation systems. 1987–88 UEFA Cup
The 1987–88 UEFA Cup was the 17th season of the UEFA Cup, the secondary club football competition organised by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). The final was played over two legs at the Estadi de Sarriá, Barcelona, Spain, and at Ulrich-Haberland Stadion, Leverkusen, Germany.
