Gerald Myers
Gerald Myers (born August 5, 1936) is an American former college basketball coach. He was the head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders men's basketball team and the Houston Baptist Huskies men's basketball team and athletic director at Texas Tech University. Early years Originally from Borger, Texas, Myers played basketball for Texas Tech from 1956–1959. As a player, he had an 86.9 percent free throw shooting average for the 1957-58 season. He received a bachelor's degree in education from Texas Tech in 1959 and later earned a master's degree in 1965. Career Myers coached basketball for Monterey High School (Lubbock, Texas), Monterey High School in Lubbock, Texas from 1959 through 1966, posting an impressive 150-48 record at the high school. City Bank Coliseum
Lubbock Municipal Coliseum (formerly City Bank Coliseum) was an 8,344-seat multi-purpose arena in Lubbock, Texas. Although the arena was located on the campus of Texas Tech University, it was owned and operated by the City of Lubbock until 2018. The Coliseum and adjoining Auditorium were demolished in 2019, following the land's transfer of ownership back to the university. The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences, located downtown at the intersection of Marsha Sharp Freeway and Ave L, opened in 2020 to replace the Auditorium. 1986 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament
The 1986 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 64 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball. It began on March 13, 1986, and ended with the championship game on March 31 in Dallas, Texas. A total of 63 games were played. Louisville, coached by Denny Crum, won the national title with a 72–69 victory in the final game over Duke, coached by Mike Krzyzewski. Pervis Ellison of Louisville was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. The Southwest Conference (SWC) was an NCAA Division I college athletic conference in the United States that existed from 1914 to 1996. Composed primarily of schools from Texas, at various times the conference also included schools from Oklahoma and Arkansas.
